I'm not sure why I'm posting here to be honest.

I don't post often.

I'm not really an active member of the community.

However, for some reason, I've been drawn to the Fan Art forum. I've seen how some people's hopes have been dashed and their work made fun of, but yet still I decide to post.

Some of the are around here is very good too, and funny.

These pictures were drawn with pencil, then traced with a pen, and then scanned in and resized.

I'm looking for helpful and constructive criticism with these, as I'm pretty sure that there's something wrong with them.

Well they're attatched below.

Yeah, you'll need to use vBcode (with the square brackets) to get those links to work.

As for the drawings, they're okay. Not quite sure what the joke is (and I doubt my reaction to a hovering pie would be "OMG!", but yeah), but I can't fault the drawing style.

EDIT: Never mind, you fixed the links while I was telling you to fix the links :p

I would just be wondering why the pie is hovering...
I like the art, do you think you might decide working with color someday soon?

Nice starting. Just make the head and the eyes bigger, that's all. :)

There's not really supposed to be a joke. I'm just trying to think up a sigworm that likes pies (not sure if anyone's done that before - will check the sigworm thread).

I may add colour. But my drawings always look crap when I add colour. I may try one of those shading tutorials.

Bigger heads and eyes. I'll see what I can do.

Thank you! That saved me a lot of time. Now to reveal my findings.

Several worms like potatoes.
Some like food.
Some like brains...

And none like pies!

*And on another note, it seems that I look like a bit of a n00b around these forums, as the forum doesn't show join dates. However, my first post was in October 2004 (jeeze! That's ages ago! - and it was a very n00by post :P)*

Oh and also, I coloured one of the pictures. I think the darkest skin tone may be too dark, but I'll see what you think.

Quite nice.

Other than that, I have nothing to say.

No criticism. Really? Aww c'mon.

A few more. One was done entirely on computer, the other two were just scanned in.

The computer drawn one doesn't look so natural, and the one with the exaggerated expression is on drugs :D.

Last one is good, but you need to work a bit on open mouths. Don't continue the lines after the mouth has ended unless you want the mouth to be only partially open. If that's the case, then you should slowly curve the bottom lip up, and only continue the top lip.
Also, the eyes look a bit off on the second one.

cooee345

One of the eyes is the wrong shape :P

I'll have a look at how others draw mouths.

And I coloured in the third one (wow I have a lot of free time today!)

The pie isn't shaded - I know that.

Would the worm with the bigger head and eyes be a better way to draw? Because my worms seem much better to me when drawn in the other style.

It's rather nice.

I have one thing to say, though.

You don't need to end every post with your name. Seriously... WHY do people do this? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Nice work. Sort of somewhere between Team17's art and Paul.Power's.

Your shading's a bit off though; it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the shape of the worms -- it looks more like a gradient fill. The worm lying down is a case in point: it has a light end and a dark end. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Nice. It's a good simple style, easy to draw and looks good.

Try experimenting with more poses, weapons, and scenes. Your shading on the worm is fine, possibly a little more subtle so the lines don't stand out so much, try extending that to the other objects.

All I got to say now is: when your worms open their mouth they suddenly lose their overbite, that's kinda weird...

cooee345

Well, if you've seen my new avatar, you'll know that I haven't dropped the gradient shading yet.

However, I have come across the 'shading with lemons' page in Splapp's tutorial and may try it next time.

I'm using FFFFB496, FFFFBDA3 and FFFFC2AE for the worms, and FFEFB551, FFEFBA5D and FFEFBE69 for the pies.

[@Pigbuster]

I have certain typing habits I use on other forums.

I always end with my name. I never just start a new line, I always leave a space in between for some reason.

But for once, I won't put my name at the end of this message.

[/@Pigbuster]

I'm using Paint.NET, and I can't find a blurring tool to make the shading less obvious (there is one in Photoshop, just that I don't have my own copy at the moment).

I've got a couple more pictures, one with a worm surrendering (though I just realised that one of the hands is in an impossible position), and one with a hat from a mini comic I'm planning on making (Pieworm, a kind of parody of Spyworm, only much, much simpler in drawing style and plot). Neither is coloured yet - I was waiting for a comment on the shading.

Pictures below.

The hands aren't great on the surrendering worm. For one thing they appear to be the wrong way around. Are you using 32-bit colour somehow? Only those colour codes were too long to be standard 24 bit hex.

cooee345
5 Apr 2007, 10:04
Yea, you're right.

Take away the FF at the beginning. I'm not sure what that relates to. May be opacity or something (I took the colour codes directly from my edited Paint.NET Palette file).

I think I already mentioned the hands, but yes, that worm has two right hands. How igood the worm with the hat is what I'd like to know, because I've started putting accessories on them.

As to the overbites with open - mouthed worms, I'll try to rectify that.

- I'll have my other computer (the one with the art) back later hopefully -

All this talk of pie makes me want to re watch some Weebl and Bob cartoons.

Keep drawing!

7 Apr 2007, 21:58
Yep. Still drawing.

I'd post another picture at this time, but the other one's my attempt at improving the open mouths which I'm not quite happy with yet.

This one's not about pies, it's about hats instead. The background's a bit of a placeholder - I needed something for the worm to be looking at. There's also another attempt at tongues.

Pictures in progress - the open-mouthed one and one with some hands and a hairdryer :P

Your sigworm needs an attire, or some physical thing that makes it distinguishable from regular worms.

cooee345
8 Apr 2007, 07:16
I don't actually have a sigworm yet.

Just a bunch of ideas. That worm's a bit of a placeholder - I'm still practicing how to draw hats and weapons as well as worms. I think I'll end up going for a worm with a cap of some kind of coat and yellow gloves that likes pie, but apart from that, I've got nothing. I need to learn how to draw coats too.

This is really nice...mmm pie.
although if you look at the pies, theres a nazi mark on it :p

cooee345
8 Apr 2007, 21:27
I'll rectify that for future pies.

Though, it was supposed to look like two of the letter 's' laid on top of each other. I never actually noticed it looked like the Nazi sign :P.

To be honest, I didn't instantly notice that it was the Nazi sign. No offence to anyone who may feel uncomfortable over the matter.

On another topic, I think that I've fixed the overbite issue, but I'm not sure about the lip. I'll try and post a drawing tomorrow.

Pies seem to be popular around here :D

Yes, but for anyone who may interpret it in the wrong way.

Nobody's commenting on the hatworm :P

It's still an illegal emblem in Germany. Unless of course, it's being used in a religious context.

In any case, it doesn't really matter.

cooee345
9 Apr 2007, 21:34
Well, after all that, I'm going to get back on topic by posting some more pictures.

The first one's my attempt at improving open mouths. There's still an overbite and the lip lines don't continue.

The other one's a sigworm picture which may or may not be final.

*Yes, if you're wondering why it's a hairdryer, it's because of one of my attempts to draw a bazooka ages ago that a friend thought looked like a hairdryer. It's also an unconventional way to cook pies, but meh.*
