View Full Version : I'm quitting the Internet.

Following a fresh discovery on the Something Awful forums, I've decided that I've had enough exposure to the infected butthole of the collective human psyche. So for now, I'm quitting the Internet.

I'll still be on MSN, I'll still be checking my work schedule and essential stuff online, but that's it. No more webcomics, no more forums, and no more permanent psychological scars.

I suppose I'll come crawling back eventually, but I need to take a good, long break for now, and maybe finish some games while I'm at it. Viewtiful Joe 2's been sitting around forever.

Ciao.

Munkee, if you view this post, you must notify me as soon as possible afterwards so I can ritualistically behead you to restore honor to your family.

Sounds like what you saw on SA was the kind of bad medicine we could use to keep trolling kids off the internet and in playgrounds and classrooms. Or perhaps young men with no life outside it.

I've seen a lot of nasty stuff in my day.

I'm can be good at avoiding it, though.
Like one time, there was a forum topic about a girl that liked to make love to maggots (with pictures, of course).
So I didn't CLICK on that link.
I'm usually curious enough to find out if something disgusting EXISTS, but I draw the line at actually going to see it myself.

I will only quit the internet if I ever see pornography of a certain children's book series.

... what?

It is true. Really.

Though I never clicked on the link, so maybe it was just an elaborate ruse on people who don't click on links to disgusting things.

I should mention that I spend my free time around sites like DA Snark that peer into the dark side of the internet, so I'm somewhat jaded. I seem to sometimes forget that not everyone DOES that, so feel free to tell me if I've crossed the line. :p

Also, I too am curious what it could have been that was so unbelievably horrible that it would prompt you to quit the internet.

It already exists.

Probably. (Rule 34: If it exists, there's porn of it)

The series is somewhat obscure, though, I think, so even if there IS any, it's going to be off in some rotten little corner. 4 commas in a row! Woo!

SupSuper
28 Mar 2007, 17:17
Ah, the Internet. Taking "and I thought I had seen everything" infinite steps too far.

Granted, the Internet does desensitize you (I worry that with all the porn out there, I will eventually be desensitized of nudity and thus be doomed) and increase your tolerance towards disgusting horrible things. Yet, at the same time, it always manages to exceed that boundary tenfold.

You can have an affair / And nobody will care,
If it turns out you're gay / You just might get a day's,
Worth of press / Nontheless if you choose to confess,
To a string of liasons / It's not gonna phase / anyone,
Unless you had them with livestock,
People nowadays are hard to shock.

You can gossip and rabbit / About your drug habit,
But if it's just dope / Then you ain't got a hope,
Of creating a scandal / most punters can handle,
They're bored of the spiff / You might just stun them if / you confess,
To dealing smack or smoking rock,
People nowadays are hard to shock.

Now you're not a real junkie till your face falls to bits,
You're not a real ladies' man till you're arrested for it,
You're not a real drunk till you're hospitalised,
It's not a real party till somebody dies.

It takes a lot more / Than consorting with whores,
Or just punching reporters / Seducing the daughters,
Of earls and MPs / Spreading rage and disease,
Or just being a lad / If you wanna be bad / enough,
To get attention round the clock,
People nowadays are hard to shock.

There's really no end to what your minor celebs
Will attempt to pull off when notoriety ebbs,
Bizarre or obnoxious or just plain obscene,
Whatever it takes to get into Heat magazine.

Stay out all night / Pull a bird, pick a fight,
Trash a bar, crash a car / But no matter how crazy you are,
It's a bore / We've all been here before,
As you come off the rails / You must know that you're destined / To fail
To lift yourself above the flock.
People nowadays are hard to shock.

Really?
I guess there are more than one arachnophiliacs on the internet.

I think the most disgusting image I ever saw so far was on DA. I only looked at it for a split second before realizing "OH MY GOD NO" and closing it.
I don't have the will to go see if what I saw was correct (Especially since I can't imagine DA hasn't deleted by now).

I'll just say that it made Goatse look pathetic in comparison.

Wasn't that bad, honestly. I've seen much worse. I mean, maggots are gross and all, but relatively speaking, it hasn't had a great deal of impact on me.

The web is the natural home of arachnophiliacs.

Because it means spiders. (And maybe scorpions. But not maggots, that's the point.)

And maggot's aren't gross. They're very useful, medically. They sterilise wounds far more cheaply and safely than artificial methods.

While this maggots thing isn't exactly pretty, it's not nearly as bad as the mutilation ones. I think I've got over the initial shock that a few people do things which defy belief.

It's what makes the Internet so great though, that things go to such extremes. I'm not just talking about the bad things, because there's good things too - such as finding games or music or books that you would otherwise never have come across. Ever flicked through the CDs in a music shop? You can go to Music Stack (http://www.musicstack.com) and search 1000s of stores from all over the world at once.

Think of porn. Think of the effect it has on people. Now think of one that would have the absolute complete utterly opposite effect.

Or, as SA put it:
Acting: - INFINITY
Story: - INFINITY
Depravity: - INFINITY
Originality: - INFINITY
Erotic Value: - INFINITY
Overall: - INFINITY

There you go.
