View Full Version : Me and my friend can connect to others' games, but not to each other?

Hi, me and my friend play WA quite a lot when both at Uni - over the network there, using our internal IP Addresses.

When one of us is at home, and the other at Uni, we obviously have to go through the Uni firewall (as well as any home router/firewall). Anyway, we've been testing it just now - BOTH of us can connect to any random games in the Anything Goes section that appear perfectly fine. But if either of us host a game, the other can't connect to it.

How can this be possible? The fact that we can both connect to others' games means both the Uni firewall and my firewall aren't problems. So why can't we connect to each others' games??

OK, we got it working by placing my laptop in a DMZ on my home router. But why would I need this to play?? I DEFINITELY have all the right ports open (as indicated on the FAQ)!

not sure if this is of any relavence but if I dont use WormsIP on almost every startup of WA no one can join me, even though I also have all the right ports open. So you might want to check out your ip before hosting a game and make sure its the same as in the internet config in game.

open 17011 and maybe 17000 (i think 17000 is for worms 2 tho =\ ) for both udp and tcp... you shouldnt need anything else.

Franpa, he already forwarded port 17011.

ShootMe is correct. You must tell WA what your external IP address is, so it can tell WormNET where to direct players trying to join your game. To do this, use the network configuration menu in WA and type your external IP address (findable at http://whatismyip.com) in the IP address box, then click the check box beside "Force IP".

but did he forward 17011 for both udp and tcp? or just tcp? or just udp?

and i didnt see anywhere that he already forwarded it to a degree.

Oh, you're right. He said "opened", not "forwarded". He may not have forwarded the ports to his computer with his router.

Yep, I was doing that and it wasn't working.

I have all the following ports forwarded:

6667
17010-17020
80

ALL TCP and UDP.

Still won't work without DMZ. Any ideas?

Mine won't work even with DMZ, count yourself lucky :p

And yes, I have typed the external IP and clicked force IP... the only other thing I can think of is that Linux has some sort of built-in firewall, although I tried it on Windows as well.

I had a thought. Is there an option on your router for something like "Block Anonymous Internet Requests"?

I know that for me, enabling it stops my webserver from working, it might affect worms too.

maybe find and link to a pdf or manual of your router for us to examine?

How do i change the port??

franpa

you can NOT change the port in any version of worms armageddon to date (possibly excluding some alpha and private builds)

I did find an option called "Respond to external WAN Ping" or something. I enabled it, and though it did enable my friend to successfully ping me (he couldn't before), it didn't solve the WA problem.
