I got an email from Andy yesterday afternoon containing a link to [this website (http://www.ibar.com/)] with the instruction "click on the cursor ;)". He'd told me previously he had a project that would be coming to some sort of a head on April 5th, and it appears that this is it - a new bar opening in Bournemouth.

I've read the blurb, and it looks pretty funky. I'm not usually a bar person, but from what I've read I'd give ibar a go.

So that's what he's been up to these past three years...

Huh. I'm pretty sure I've seen/heard/read about this a good time ago. I just never knew it was Andy Davidson's idea.

Quite the plot twist.

I wonder if he'll put up some old Amiga AGA machines with Worms DC running on them.

This looks like a really cool idea. If I'm ever in the area for any reason, I'll totally have to check it out.

Given that I've never even been in the UK, though, it seems rather unlikely.

What's it doing in Bournemouth? That's no help.

It's there because of the cool name? Well, it would be cool if they altered the spelling a bit into Burningmouth..

What on Earth are you talking about?

You asked what it was doing there. I tried to think of a reason. But since I don't know anything about the place, the name is all I had to work with. And the name almost looked liked burningmouth. I made a remark about it. How can this not be obvious?

Yeah, but you're giving me "It would have a cool name if it was called something else"? I can't believe you even dared show your face here if that's all you've got. Be off with you.

Andy's home town is Bournemouth. Best of luck to him, doesn't sound the kind of place the retiring grannies are going to head - but having been out in Bournemouth a few times, I'm sure they didn't head to the kind of establishments that guys from Sega and myself found ourselves in.

Aww, I was born in Bournemouth.* Now I wish I'd never moved out, and instead spent all 19 years of my life psychologically building up to this moment.

Ah well, if I'm ever in the area. Which I won't be.

*Poole, actually

So apparently the opening night went well. We might want to consider ibar as part of this year's Get-Together, as Andy's offered me a tour of the place.

There's a good idea. (Although it doesn't look like it'd be fun to get to -- it must be nearer Paris than Leeds!)

EDIT: It always amazes me how much stuff there is north of Manchester and Leeds. In terms of North-South distance, they're only about halfway up Great Britain.

Yeah, but most of it's Scotland, and as far as I can tell, Scotland is three or four cities and a whole lot of nothing. Nice looking nothing, granted, but still.
