The game crashes shortly after startup (while at the loading screen)

I tried every Resolution, and still the same results.
I tried every Solution, and still the same results.

I've used glIntercept to try and diagnose the problem, the last function logged before crashing is: glClientActiveTextureARB()
(I don't know if this is a vid driver function or a function in the game)

My setup is:

OS: WinXP Pro SP2
Proc: Dual Pentium 3 1.2 GHz
Mobo: Tyan S2507T (Tiger 230T)
Chipset: Via Apollo Pro 133A
Mem: 1GB of PC100/133 SDRAM (not sure of the exact speed)
Video: ATI Radeon 9200 / Driver: Catalyst 6.14.0010.6614
DirectX 9.0c (I know the game uses OpenGL - listing J.I.C.)
NO Sound Card (should work fine without one??)

Thanks in advance,
Crud

Read the box. Sound card required. Have you tried updating your video card drivers?

Yes, the drivers are the latest. I did find something very odd though.

Talking to other people on other forums the newer OpenGL drivers for the 9200 are supposed to be v1.4+, but I ran HardwareInfos and it reported OpenGL 1.3.x

WTF?? I guess maybe ATI went back to using 1.3?

I'll try getting a new soundcard (old one died) and see if that helps. Most games just don't use their sound routines when a soundcard isn't present.

I had this problem yesterday, my game crashes shortly after gamestart (no sega image no nothing, only black screen and then *.exe error.

I had this problem because I overwrite some speech schemes in the data/audio folder, because the formats wasn't the same as the original, like *.wav with 32 khz, 16 and 512 kbps :S and the sounds I put was *.wav 32 khz, 16 bit and 128 kbps :S. Now it works fine and I have no problem (only the tipical online crashes). Maybe you have overwrite some important file (you use a crack?, it you are using a crack for the SP1 version it going to not work with the SP2 installed...

Mi system specifications are:
WIN XP PRO with integrated Service Pack 2
AMD XP 2400+ overclocked to +2800 (about 2.4 - 2.6 ghz)
512 Ram DDR 333
ATI x1650pro 512 mb on AGP 8x
Asrock K7s8x rev 3
Hitachi 250 gb ata 133
And an integrated sound card, 5.1 with sound drivers Xeard 3D.

However... try to upgrade you'r sound card drivers and graphics.
