The Worms Tournament Updated April 4, 2007: 2:43 PM Eastern

Alright first off, lets get about 10 people in the tournament. The most we will have is 18. If anyone wants to drop out of the tourny, they are free to do so. The person who is the last person gets bumped up to their place. This is the title of best of the best (on the forums.)

Rules:

Lets all decide on the rules together. By rules, I mean should we have referees, should we make the game type ranked, beginner, intermediate, etc. That kind of stuff.

Players:

1.OctoPoos
2.worMatty
3.bower
4.drx975
5.Morberis
6.Boiko
7.Kingdangle
8.Turboman

I'm in. For scheme, I'll say ranked or pro. Separate the men from the boys. How many players in each game?

Well, heres what we could do.

We could do double Elim. and have a losers bracket, and winners bracket.

Or, we could do 4 people at a time, and the 2 people that come in last, are out of the tourny. But the 2 people in first and second could have a winners and losers bracket, or just go to the second round. Then by the time we have 4 people left, we could just do 4 on all, and have the top 2, then let them play each other.

What do you guys think?

I think your second idea but I don't understand the winner/losers bracket thing. Going to the second round would be simpler but it would be more exciting if they went in different groups, because they might end up fighting one another again in some future matches.

Like if Matt and Joe play together, and Joe loses. Matt would go in the top 5, and Joe would go in the losing 5. The losing 5 would play each other until there is one person left, and they get to go to the next round, but has to work their way up. There will be around 4 rounds until we have the top 4 or so.

I think that's a bit unfair because what you'd basically be doing is putting all the good players in one group and the less than good players in another, and then when the one remaining player from each group battles each other it will be a match between a good player and a less than good player. Again. Better to do it the traditional way and whittle it down to the best (or luckiest) players of the bunch, in my opinion. Like a big tree but on its side. That's what I picture. In my head. ... o_O

Yeah, thats called a bracket.

So I'll pick names out of a hat, and place them on a bracket. Maybe if we get 20 people, I will have 10 people on each side.

Try to get some people to sign up Matt.

You misunderstood my point. It wasn't to clarify the meaning of a bracket, it was to recommend against doing it, with a reason, in a handy mini portfolio consisting of one paragraph for easy digestion.

Actually, digestives, now there's a thought...

Are you saying you'd like to do 4 on all?

Updated.

Guys, try to get some more people in this. We should have it some time before, or early April.

I will play just need to know when. Should do though on a weekend though would turn out better for all.

Gamertag-Boiko

IMO- we should have ranked scheme, Randomly generated map, and 1v1 because People will be complaining about people teaming up and so on. But i am honestly down for anything and will play any scheme, # of players and whatever. Just want to play!

Alright its updated. We can't do ranked matches because we can't invite people, and it would just be too hard. Private matches will be fine.

Do you guys want to do ranked layout or beginner or what? And a lot of people here are from england, so we shouldn't have the tournament on a certain day, we should tell them when it starts, and who needs to fight who. That way they can do it when both of the people are ready.

But I will give 5 to 7 days to do it. If one person didn't show up or anything, they are kicked out and the other person advances.

sounds cool, but have the scheme be the ranked scheme. Why, IMO 10min game on pro is too short. Each game will end in sudden death draws probaly. But ill play anything just want to play and know rules and such.

Ok you guys are making this thing way too complicated. This is what is going to/should happen.

1) The scheme shall be ranked, it is the way most people play the game and it is only fair to keep this consistant with ranked games play online. It is a tough enough scheme. While pro is tougher, it is only this as the time is so short. And imo, less time leads to more luck and less skill levels, with more kamikaze style tactics.

2) The layout will be (depending on worms, but i dont think we r going to get much more than 8), 8 worms play. In this case someone will draw names out of a hat. 2 games of 4 worms in a match. the top 2 in each then go into a final. Its that simple. And rather having this as a one off event we could do one a week.

3) I propose the 1st one on April the 16th @ 9p.m. GMT. Could the organiser add everyones gamertag now so we can get the ball rolling.

THESE RULES SHOULD BE SET IN STONE NOW AS TO AVOID ANYMORE CONTROVERSY!!! THIS IS NOT A DEBATE BUT A WORMS TOURNAMENT. YOU DONT BARTER THE RULES. EVERYONE HAS A FAIR CHANCE AT IT AS IT IS THE MOST WIDELY USED SCHEME!!!

ok here are the worms that have entered so far and imo, this should be the worms in the first tournament.

1.OctoPoos
2.worMatty
3.bower
4.drx975
5.Morberis
6.Boiko
7.Kingdangle - gamertag = kingdangler1
8.Turboman

Why have 1v1 matches when 4 worms in a match is much tougher and a lot harder to come out on top. On 1v1 you could get lucky spawns and the match is over. In a 4 worm match, you may get lucky spawns but because of the amount of worm rotation the match is nowhere near over as the damage is spread i.e. the other teams wont be going for you all the time whereas in a 1v1, he/she is going for u the whole time.

I presume you mean four players, Kngdangle, not worms. OctoPoos is organising this event so he has the final say.

Kingdangle
6 Apr 2007, 09:12
I certainly do mean four players. And if that is the case I might run my own tournament then as I was looking forward to getting one. IMO 1v1 games are boring and predictable and totally rely on where your worms are spawned.

But on a 4-player match, you could end up with 3 people going for you! And lucky spawns are even worse, as you can get attacked by more than one team now before you can get your worm to safety!
Remember that this is a tournament, so there won't be any "don't shoot a worm if it's the last on a team" or "don't team up" rules.
