View Full Version : Anti-religious Worms?

I don't want to start any kind of religious debate here; I just want a simple answer to a simple question:

On my Worms team, the PartyProphets, I have Jesus, Mohammed, Abraham and Buddah as names for my Worms (I know it's a bit inappropriate for me to name my little bringers of death after religious figures, but work with me here). For some reason, Jesus is renamed "Naughty" or "Terrible" by the word filter. Now I'm not a very religious person, but I'm a tad offended that of all the religious figures in the world, Jesus is considered "Naughty" and "Terrible". WHY is Jesus singled out? If it's because of its connotation as a swear word, you should hear people SPEAKING on Xbox Live... talk about foul language. "Jesus" is by far the least offensive word I've heard so far.

Anyway, I would prefer that either ALL religious names be filtered or NONE of them. Also, Jesus is a pretty common Spanish name, so I feel I need to stand up for the Jesus' of the world as well.

Any comment Team 17?

As far as I know, it's not the game that does the filtering, it's Xbox Live.

You might have to take this up with Microsoft. Also, that's the only one that is commonly used as slang.

And here we learn the value of reading the Sticky threads before posting, especially ones entitled "Please read before posting!!": http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31917

MS decide the censoring, not T17.

I'm gonna bet that MS filters out Muhammad, which is the most common spelling of the name of the founder of Islam. You also spelt Buddha wrong. I'm suprised Abraham isn't filtered, but then he isn't a deity AFAIK. The rules seem a little vague to me, but check your spelling before you rant.

"Abraham" is just a name, like "George" or "John", or any other dead president. You can't filter that. That would be madness.

That said, there are a lot of people called Mohammed out there, too, so who knows what to do any more? Personally, I think I'd be glad MS had taken responsibility for the filter away.

jesus (pronounced "hesus") is also a fairly common name in spanish and portuguese, so i don't see why it's any less ridiculous to filter it out than abraham.

He has a good point there! :)

He's just repeated a point already made in the original thread. Its hardly worth celebrating.

Abraham is considered a prophet in Islam. (Well... according to Wikipedia, that is).

Only Microsoft can explain the logic behind their language filter's choice of words.

@quakerworm: As in, Buddha, hence the party prophets' team?

@quakerworm: As in, Buddha, hence the party prophets' team?
but are they really that different? prophets believe that they were spoken to by god directly. buddha got enlightened in the state of nirvana. in the end, all of them claim to get instructions from above.

No religious spouting. End of thread.

Summary: Microsoft filter names, not us.
