View Full Version : The Movies Casting Call: "Typecast"

That's right, after fiddling about with "The Movies" for over a year, I'm finally going to make one. I've written a script, and I'm polishing it up this evening, but the characters are pretty much nailed down. I won't ruin the plot or anything, but I have five roles that need filling, one of which requires a non-British accent (preferably American). There are two other roles, which are being filled by myself and Worm Mad.

If you're up for it drop me an email or reply to this. Or something.

People currently penciled in to provide vocals
Bloopy
Bonz
FutureWorm
Paul.Power
Philby4000
SupSuper
Zero72

People definitely providing vocals
Pooka
Worm Mad
WorMatty
Me

THE PARTS

Large Parts
Tony, the actor - Generally a happy, easy-going guy. Currently troubled by his inability to get varied acting roles. - WorMatty
Donald, his agent - The agent who lands Tony auditions. Unfortunately they're for the sort of role Tony's looking to get away from. - Me

Medium-sized parts
Casting Manager (7 lines) - In charge of casting for a BBC production Tony auditions for. Utterly unable to act. - Worm Mad
Barman (9 lines) - Owner of Tony's local bar. Friendly in a generic Barman sort of way.
Leeroy, a fellow actor (11 lines) - Tony's friend from overseas, also struggling to find a challenging role. Likely to be FutureWorm

Small parts
Studio Executive (5 lines) - An executive for Granada Television.
Television Voiceover (1 line) - Continuity announcer for a TV channel. "And coming up next..." etc. etc. - Pooka

Hi I saw your ad in the (previously know as)100% ott.

I guess I could, although my accent may be a tad unpredictable.

Do you need Austrian German?
Or English with a slight Austrian German accent?

12 Mar 2007, 17:31
I'm not fussed - so long as people can play their part well, nationality doesn't bother me. I had written one of the characters specifically as being American because of some of the dialogue, but for everyone else it doesn't matter.

I'd do it. But working and life in general... I'm not sure if I will have enough time. But maybe.

I'd ideally be looking for dialogue to be recorded within the week. I'm going to list the characters.

Hmm...
Can I be the Studio Executive or the Television Voiceover?
Yeah, I'm a lazy slacker.

I volunteer.

Even if it does mean that I'll have to find and install my microphone thingummy.

The casting manager would be my first choise, but I don't really mind.

To elaborate, I'm penciled in there, but it's worth noting that I don't get especially handsome recording quality, so I'm not really chiseled in stone. :p

Funky.

I should probably start sending scripts out.

I'm interested in helping out. I have a good mic and I can do accents okay... British, American, Australian, though the British is a tad high-pitched.

My own usual New Zealand accent sounds terribly goofy on playback, to the point that I am considering engineering a change. :p

S2K, what about adding a few small, 1-line minor roles with a bunch of accents & dialects from people around the world, meaning from OD?

I don't think I could do that without breaking up the flow of the plot. This particular thing doesn't have a closed ending, and if it's well-received I may well write more featuring the same characters. I can see a lot of potential with what I've written.

What?!

Tony has been cast, as has the Casting Director. They will be played by WorMatty and Worm Mad respectively.

This leaves two roles left to fill - three if you include Leeroy, as FutureWorm hasn't been in touch regarding that part since Sunday.

Zero72
16 Mar 2007, 09:04
I can do Leeroy if he can't. Natural American accent an' all.

If so, I promise to actually study the script a bit and get into character, rather than winging the whole thing like I did for Beards. :p

Worm Mad

I can do something if you want, but I'm volunteering time, and not necessarily talent. I've not even tried to act at all since high school.

I'm going to do it as soon as I get my MacBook back (hopefully mid-next week).

No microphone except the one that's part of his MacBook? Just a guess.

But that would likely be **** quality speech, which we don't want.

18 Mar 2007, 06:26
The Mics on the new MacBooks are not THAT bad..

And if he lent his MacBook to a friend or something, as opposed to getting it repaired, his friend could have his headset/microphone?

Iunno. I'm just guessing. >_>

Err, professional-quality sound from an in-built mic? Dun think soooo!

Hence the latter comment! Maybe he has a proper mic but he lent it with the MacBook! Or maybe accidently shipped it if it was broken!

The possibilities are.. well, limited, I suppose.

Squirminator2k
18 Mar 2007, 15:45
Maybe he plans to buy a funky new headset, but not until he has his MacBook back.

Okay, so here's a long-overdue update.

Almost all of the dialogue is ready. I'm still watching on WorMatty's "Tony", which he has assured me will be with me soon. I still don't have FutureWorm's sounds, though...

7 May 2007, 11:55
Guh, damn it, I still need to look through that script. Really sorry I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'll try to do it next weekend. Now I get to go to bed and kick off another glorious week of my hellish job. Yay!

Squirminator2k
7 May 2007, 13:55
Oh yeah, you'd pinched FutureWorm's role, hadn't you? I'd forgotten about that.

Zero72
9 May 2007, 09:54
Not really, but I can still take it if he doesn't want it. I think you had me unofficially cast as a TV executive or something.

Well Josh appears to have been eveloped in a cloud of his own malevolence*, so go ahead.
