Well my other thread started with fairly poor artwork so I decided to start a proper thread with proper art (hopefully). I will post comics, pictures, avatars (perhaps) and...well...whatever I feel really. Critisize, rate, judge or whatever you feel like doing.
Tadaaa. Probably better version here...http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/Tgworm/BirthdayComic.png

That style is quite better! The only thing you should focus on fixing a bit for now are the mouths, when they are open... That grin at the end was pretty nice, too.

I still think you could gain a lot by adding eyebrows. They can help add just little bit of extra expression that makes it more fun to look at.

Consider the following: both pictures are identical, except one of them has eyebrows. Much better isn't it?

haha I like the joke!

It's okay, only the expression in the last panel doesn't really fit...

They have rather thick bottom lips. The joke is good, but the expression of the worm on the right in the last panel doesn't seem to fit.

Mmm, work on that underbite and experiment with eyebrows you could be pretty well onto something. Definitely a nice improvement.

Like the others said, Worm B's expression in the last panel looks nice but isn't quite appropriate.

Oh good good, will work on underbite, eyebrows and expressions. Hopefully the joke was average, I'm usually not so brilliant at them.

Edit: Big worm type thing.

Longworm is loooong.

That worm is much better, but it's far too long.

I copied it into GIMP and reduced the height by 40%. It now looks much better I think, except the eyes now need to be longer.

Otherwise, it's a big improvement. Keep it up.

I officially give up on trying to teach you to shade properly.:p

I will, however, give you one more piece of advice.

Work big. Resize when you're done.

Actually, now the tail's a bit too long.

I can't remember you trying to teach me how to shade. I didn't realise I was doing it wrong, feel free to correct me.

Edit: I put a little grey bit on the outer part of their eyes this time. Improvement? It's come out all crappy so please take a look at this much better version http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/Tgworm/GroupPiccy.png

Yay! Cameo!

The drawing's a lot better now. The art's not bad at all.

Oh, and Philby was reffering to this (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=562131&postcount=28) post when he tried to help you with your shading. Take note, he knows what he's talking about.

It may sound daft me saying this, but it might be worth getting a load of blu-tack, and sculpting a worm out of it, then shining a torch on it when you want to look at shading. At least then you can copy from an actual 3D model, raher than trying to imagine it yourself.

I've already done that, more than once.

Strangely, you're still following Ciskens advice from your last thread, despite it being completely wrong.

Like I said I've given up.:p

Oh of course, I'm sorry I misplaced that memory:p I'm now going back to that post and am going to work on a new piece of art based on that.

On that last picture I posted, I am particularly proud of Tgworm's expression. Mainly his eyes (Looking at the audience if drawn correctly)

Edit: For the first time in my life i tried using PSP. Is there a curved line tool anywhere? How do you guys get your lines so straight etc?

philby4000
14 Mar 2007, 12:19
Select the line tool, then change it's seting to 'belzier Curve' (Or something like that, it's been a while). Takes a little practice to get used to, but hey that's what ctrl-Z was invented for.

While you're at it, you'll want to turn antialiasing off. There should be a tickbox somewhere.

Also, I'm not sure if there's a pencil tool in PSP, but if there is you shouyld use that for lineart instead of the brush (as it's free from the lineartist's worst enemy, the dreaded antialiasing). If not you can probably fiddle with the brushes' settings to the same end.

Try reducing the feathering to zero and puting the hardness right up, that might work.

Oh thanks alot. Will try all that.

Later Edit: Couldn't get my head round PSP so did a little paint doodle instead.

Better and better... not sure about the point on the left on zero's helmet...

About shading:
Do Philby's style, not Cisken's.
well, it's both good, but Philby's style is better.

Is it? Darn. Isn't it in the same direction as that of the one on your avatar?

I just mean it's angled too sharply to match the other one.

Red arrow shows what I mean, green arrow should give you a better idea. Not perfect, but I think you get it.

Three questions.

Why is the left point of zero's helmet taller than the other?

Why are his eyes shaded oposite the shading of his body?

And why can't you grasp the concept that the shaded reigion doesn't ge thinner the higher up the worm it is?:p

well, you don't have any eyebrows, and miss the top slightly. but when I looked at it, I didn't notice anything wrong straight away

If your gonna post every worm that you draw and wait for critique you won't ever improve. Now draw 100 worms and post the last 3.

No, no no. I am posting the ones which mean something. E.g. new shading style or position etc etc. Oh and to the others- the intenetion wasn't to do soemthing that looks exactly like Philby's, i was just showing that shading style.
