Hey! I created a map many years ago, a very popular one. It was a shopper called "Da Hood" or something...i might ahve produced a few versions of it. Anyway, I'm looking for it as i dont have it anymore. its not at sfxclan anymore (which seems quite dead anyways...)

IF YOU ARE ONLINE RIGHT NOW, PLEASE SEE IF YOU HAVE IT! ALSO, PLEASE REPLY! there are only a few of us who even play this anymore...

Franpa, the real cl2k forums are totally gone. They "disappeared", according to the owner, Ian/Poo. That link just directs to the SiX forums now. Also, two SfX members (including me) have already posted in this thread, so they already know the status of their forums.

Noefex, I'm sorry we can't find your map in our SfX map database. By the way, SfX is still alive and well, despite the last news post being in April of 2006. M3ntal and I are SfX members.

Could anyone with a large map count please search their maps thoroughly for anything with "hood" in the file name?

I've no idea, what's there is a combination of what has been released in map packs and what has been given to me since. The original map cart made by Annelid disappeared one day, along with all the maps.

As for the forum link, we currently have no forums since cl2k went down. I've replaced it with a link to our IRC channel for now, as there is always at least Lex there, and usually myself, KRD and Wyv also.

Indeed.
[UFP]Ghost (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=33232) seems to have the largest compendium of maps (both color and bit) these days.
Several gigabytes, IIRC.

I like www.filefront.com (http://uploadhosted.filefront.com/) to upload games related stuff.
They have a maximum file size limit of 1GB and uploads must not take longer than 10 hours.
You can create an account have a good overview of your files.

Check the info on the page I linked.

Maybe upload small packages of maps sorted by scheme type.
And when done, create a new thread with all the links.

Not a bad map (I've always thought that urban maps are best suited for shoppers), though I haven't touched anything but color maps since the beta updates supported them.

I suggest you make a full color remake of it and throw in a few reasonable street/city objects to substitute for the wall and ceiling parts and upload it on www.wmdb.org.

whoa, full color? honestly, i havent had WA installed for years. last time i touched this map, i was 15 years old lol! but it might be time to go back and fully update it. as long as i can get online and get into a game ALMOST whenever i want, then im perfectly happy.

as for the remake, if the community is there i'll do it. if not....eh.

is clansfx still relatively active? or is it just a relic of what used to be [the most bada$$ site in the universe]

SFX always was a lot more than just the website. All the maps in the cart, along with those made by the clan's members, were just the first contact most people had with the clan, so that's what everyone remembered. Tutorials, forums and infinitely charismatic members that were involved in most happenings in the community helped too, har.

We've been discussing a new website for a while now, which is mostly the reason we haven't kept the old one updated. But as it happens, most of us are a lot busier than we were a few years ago, and such things take a lot of time and dedication which is mostly spent on others things these days. Even things related to WA, granted, but you won't see the clan on top of the game's leagues right now. Maybe again one day... but not too soon.

Still, quite a few of our current members frequent the IRC channels on GameSurge [a link to which has been added to the site now] and a couple of forums, so we aren't too hard to get in touch with.

Here's a link to one of those other forums I mentioned. A frequently updated thread with links to lots of Wormy websites, to be precise. Good destination if you're planning a comeback!

The clan itself is less of a league-playing clan and more just a bunch of friends these days. We're still all skilled players, but not the "old" SFX any more. People like vahagn and Tjerp pop up occasionally and play for a month or two, but they passed on leadership to myself and KRD ages ago due to inactivity. So maybe a bit of a relic, but then it's a tough legacy to keep up to.

The site is actually very active, we average about 130 hits per hour, and most of that is for the map cart and the beta update. It may be worth putting a forum up just to see who posts, thinking about it.

[UFP]Ghost
11 Mar 2007, 19:17
why not revamp (so to speak) the site up?

In fact I'd be happy if you guys would host my maps when I'm done sorting, i have all the ones you do (yes i spent about an hour or two, getting them) so ya :) if you don't mind that would be great.

M3ntal

Heh, i started doing so last year actually, but i got sidetracked with paid work and stuff. What i've done is here (http://85.13.251.137/~clansfx/), but most of it is templates, classes, AJAX, etc so there isn't much visible content.

As for maps, sure i'll add them if you sort them. The cart only supports .BIT at the moment though, and i wouldn't want to upload any without authors permissions first. Ones you've got from other community sites that are all over the place are fine, but i don't want any from specific clan sites or personal sites only.

Lex

I think it's quite average for its era. Better shoppers were made in later eras, which you must have missed.

in what way? i gametested it so that you could easily navigate the map within a few seconds as an avid roper. i gave ample space to do so too.

That's not what a good Shopper is about, though. Compare with this (http://wmdb.org/2070) map, for instance. It has lots of hides and water holes, many ways to rope through, isn't too open and bears tons of possibilities for interesting situations to occur. Easy navigation is more of a negative aspect for a Shopper, really, as is openness. In such a map, there's generally not a lot to do.

well thats hwo the map was designed. it was designed to allow for expert ropers to basically own the map and help newbie ropers learn how to rope properly.

Well, it's just that you won't easily find expert ropers playing on such an open and simple map, at least not nowadays. If you want to design a map for experts, you'll have to make it challenging, otherwise they'll be bored.

Wyvern's point still applied back then. I was around back then too, and was an expert roper. I remember not playing shoppers at the time because most maps of that era were like yours; not enough of a challenge. I still have the same problem most of the time, but the maps are better and more challenging these days. I have played some very tricky wall-to-wall shoppers recently, which were great fun.
