View Full Version : Impressive stuff in Worms 360

We already have a few dozen threads about the lack of weapons and the sky falling. About time we have a thread focussing about the good stuff.

So, what parts of the game surprised and impressed you?

Some of the things I've noticed:
Backgrounds looks really nice, they blend extremely well with the 2D graphics. At first I actually thought they were 2D, until I moved the camera and realized "Ooh, look, perspective change!"

The worms themselves. Animate extremely smooth. Took me a while before I noticed worms actually look in the direction of incoming sheep and other dangerous projectiles.

The shy lurking ninja sheep in the main menu. If you haven't seen him yet, just focus on the lower-right part of the screen, until you notice a sneaky sheep pop into view, who then equally sneaky pops out of view. Best video game character ever.

The AI uses jetpack and ninja ropes! Sure, they don't use them often, but I was amazed to see the AI use them at all.

The game looks great overall. Very sharp, without losing the 'wormy' feel. The AI has learned a few trick too, as you mentioned. In one game I had an AI worm use a rope to get out of a hole, jump onto a small piece of land near me, and firepunch me into a mine.

Downloaded the full game at 9.10am and stopped playing 8 hours later when I had to get ready to go out. It's 100% Worms in my book. Felt good to be playing it on TV from the sofa again - after so many many cold, uncomfortable nights in front of my PC with W:A since 1999.

When I first saw the CPU attach a rope and start swinging away my jaw nearly hit the floor. My AI friends got mad roep skillz nao w00t !!

I thought what a coincidence that Big Ben said 2.10 and it was actually 2.10 where I was. The penny didn't drop until I looked again at 2.45 and it was...........2.45 !! I'm a big fan of realtime clocks in games, especially the original MSR or stuff like Animal Crossing. Great idea & implementation Team17.

Weapons I've found to be fine, nothing game turning but enough that you can keep plugging away to another momentous victory.

The Worms' expressions and ''self-awareness'' is like a cross between W4 + WA and I love it. Well done to the artists / animators for giving even more life to my squad of annelid annihilators.

Also props to the Art guys responsible for the backgrounds. The first time the titanic sunk at sudden death I was like ......hey - it's really sinking !! Cool subtle extras like that are worth 10 new ''point und clik no skill wepaonz'' in my opinion.

Other niceness I've found includes, but is not limited to, the

''bendy, go practically vertical blowtorch''

''awesomely creative status messages you see when viewing others profiles''

''next-gen high def teleporter visual glory''

''realtime flying grave physics after taking massive damage''

''girder anywhere and everywhere''

''floaty jetpac''

-Thanks to all at Team17 who made this game, and those responsible for bringing it to XBLA. All that is left to do now is make sure every other game hosted is a ''BnG'' or ''T17'' like they were ''Ropers'' or ''Shoppas'' on W:A and it's mission accomplished ;)

Yep, the game looks really really nice.
The menu is ok too.
And the game starts really fast. You press play, and after this screen with Worms, you are in it. So, no real loadtimes.
Animations are nice (even if i don't know what these symbols over an AI worm want to tell us....EAT PIZZA..OH NO I MEANT CHEESE^^

I've noticed a think-bubble pattern on the AI!

I was playing a game, and a worm was surrounded by oil barrels and mines. I was standing next to one of his teammates. His pattern was this:

Mine. (Don't Move)
Barrel (Shotgun=No!)
Grenade (Chosen weapon)
Worm (Friend-Don't Fire)

And then he skipped his go.

I'm pretty sure I saw Martyn's face in a thought bubble.. I think one my worms has a crush.

I thought the bubbles were just random? Do they really represent their thoughts?

Anyway, I did notice how smart the AI is now. The punching into mines, using jetpacks and jumping over water (What they never did in wwp) really impressed me. They also re-aim their uzi-shots when you go out of their crosshairs.

Great looking game, the only thing that irks me just a little bit is the moving backrounds. They tend to distract me a little to much. noob complaint but hey :p but its the worms ive loved since the first time I played years ago.

Another thing I noticed is the evil precision with which they now can bounce grenades with. I'm not talking about exact aim, but more like some really nice *bank* shots they use to bounce a grenade off something. It's really inspiring me to do the same. When I set it to Artillery-mode, it gives me a lot of time to see grenade tricks with the limited arsenal.

Note: Artillery-mode = Schema with just Bazooka(Inifinite), Grenades(5).

that's interesting. direct aim is very easy to do. it is essentially solving a quadratic. bouncing things off terrain, on the other hand, requires a lot more work. in fact, off the top of my head, i can only think of brute force methods of aiming off terrain.

I definitely think the AI is great in this game. On intermediate level, one of the AI worms ninja ropped across the ceiling 5 times to get to one of my worms and punch me into a mine that blew up a canister.

Yeah, the AI did one extremely fancy nade throw at me yesterday.

The AI was standing right next to a wall. He then aims *at* the wall and sets the nade timer to 1, and then I think "Oh dear, the AI is doing a major blunder and is gonna hurt himself." But he throws with the exact power to make it fly at the wall, bounce in the opposite direction and explode exactly as it passes one of my worms.

And this was a worm he could have fired directly at with the bazooka! I think the AI hates me and just wants to demonstrate how much better he is than me :c

My only complaint about the bazooka and nade shots the AI is that even the weak AI is so darn precise. The only times they miss is when a gigantic obstacle is obviously in the way. I would have wished for the AI to do more human-like mistakes, such as firing with the slightly wrong angle or power.

The new AI definitely likes to show off a little :D I've seen a few occasions where they could have lobbed a grenade over onto me, but instead faced the other direction and stood against a vertical edge. The result was a point blank bank shot off a tiny section of wall that landed perfectly on my worm.

I also agree about the lower level AI - they are deadly accurate. There doesn't seem to be a huge difference of accuracy in the different levels, they can all hit some fancy shots.

I've got to agree with everything said thusfar. I do love this game and already pounded though most of the achievements within a few hours. Background / terrain... brilliant. Choice of weapons... expected. Weapon damage... unexpected. My only quarrel is with the mines... they're too easy to get around. I thought they would have a random timer (0-3 seconds) but they're all 3 seconds (ie. too easy to navigate the map). Everyone is moaning and groaning about the rope, I like it - gives those who haven't played a run for their money. Challenges were great up until 20 - I had to hide a few worms and wait for sudden death, yeah I pussed out. Other than that I have been anticipating this game for awhile now and I am not dissapointed, thank you much team 17!

Worms pull a screaming face if you walk near or in shallow water and keep walking...
