Majornelson's blog.

But more specifically, from la bouche du cheval :

New bigger MUs available, and a hike to 150MB for XBLA titles.

The game fits fine into 50MB. Granted it could have had more sounds or themes or both with another 100MB, but there's no reason it can't do that with downloadable extras.

Even if they'd had the full 150MB, I'd have liked to see them keep the core game inside 64MB so that it would still fit on a small memory card. I don't think filling the space for the sake of it is helpful.

Very good point.

spadge said they had a lot of problems to get the game fit into 50MB, and who saves XBLA to a memory card anyway

Even so, though, having the announcement now probably isn't that different from having it a month ago (aside from being less annoying). You remember how long testing took. The effort of getting it into 50MB still got the game out a long time ahead of when it would be out had they waited.

Ooh, I wonder how far in advance of this (if at all) Live developers found out about the increase.

and who saves XBLA to a memory card anyway
Not many people, probably. I don't really know. The option is a nice thing to have, though, especially if you want to take it to a mate's house or something.

I thought its now 250mb?

Nope. That was a rumour which turned out to be wrong.

There's a press release just up the thread that proves it. There's little point arguing with Mircosoft about Mircrosoft policy.

So what? they *didn't* knew it before.

I know the game just came out after so long and the dev's are probably annoyed to hear everyone complaining about different things here and there, and I know they've defended the shortened list of weapons and things like that-- But that being said, I think it's pretty obvious they would have put some more things into the game without the 50mb limit.

So is there any chance, given the new 150MB limit, that we could see an actual patch, to maybe add a few weapons or flames from barrels or anything like that aside from the voice and background DLC? Or is that not possible with the way the game is setup and the XBL patch system?

The limit was upped after Microsoft released a larger Memory Pack for the Xbox 360. I don't see Microsoft telling Team 17 this, really.

I doubt that extra speechbanks will be released for free. I imagine we'll be charged a few points for a Speech Pack including various different speechbanks. Hopefully Team17 Test will get an airing as well.

As for new weapons, I think that's pretty much been ruled out.

I noticed the download was only around 42mb...

The only thing I wish would change about this game is the explosions! Sometimes I feel like they're not as powerful as they were in previous worm games. Specifically how big of a radius of impact the grenades and bazookas and even cluster bombs have on everything, the SHEEP don't even blow a huge hole in the wall like they should.

And the choice of voice banks ... who here can speak French?

BUT IT'S A GREAT GAME =D I can't wait for DLC's! (hope they're free)

Well I don't think MS could of told Team 17 about this while they were making the game. I think the reason MS changed the policy was after that interview ran with the worms developers who said they had trouble fitting the game into 50mb and they would add more content via Download content.

Well that article kind of spun it more like Team 17 couldn't fit their game in 50mb and is going to charge you for content they couldn't fit in the game. (sorry forgot what site did the article).

Anyway there was a pretty big backlash on xbox.com because people don't like getting charged extra for stuff that should be in the game. I think MS response to that backlash was this move.

They made the game and then had to choose when to release it, they were already going through some of the last steps in the process. If they were to add more content to fit 150 mb after MS already told them 50 was the limit, they probably would have had to wait even longer to release it. So many people have been waiting for this game, and here it is finally!

There are some things we just won't understand!
I have a good feeling that the DLC will be free, but if it costs something ... at this point I don't think it will ;)

The game was pretty much finished late last year. The limit was 50mb then - end of story. We can't just do what we like, we have to work with the Microsoft team with policies that are in place at that time.
