Just wait till _Kilburn starts his forum comic, then we'll have 3 decent forum comics on the go at once (assuming _Kilburn's will be any good).

"We didn't discriminate against you because you were green, Pickleworm..."
"No, we discriminated against you because you were a raving lunatic"

Likewise, any discrimination in this case was not against the colour of the worms themselves, but the "hey black is cool let's make our sigworms black with glowing primary coloured eyes!" attitude that persisted for a brief period here (I make an exception for Shockdude. Nifty. I still only have a 6-iron and a putter, but I don't really need much else where I tend to play golf.

And: Are you still working on the comic?Fine, fine  ;)

Funnily enough, I don't think I've ever seen a... for the say of clarity, a dark brown sigworm on the forums. Which is a bit odd, really, but there y'go.

I believe your Ghostbusters tribute comic says differently.

Though I guess that's not a black sigworm, but eh.

Yes, but the point is that the principle hot caffinated beverage of the UK is tea, and the principle hot caffinated beverage of the US is coffee. As the same implement (the teaspoon) is used to stir both, I wondered if they were called coffee spoons over there.

I did this in GIMP (as Paint decided to FUBAR), in case you're wondering why it looks a little different. Copy/pasting of Andrew deliberate for that "fixed sceptical stare" look.

Oh they'll copy and paste more than one sometimes. Vampire Doll does that often.

yauhui
19 Jun 2007, 08:37
lazy artists.. (or is it the publishers' fault?)

Cisken1
19 Jun 2007, 08:42
No sometimes it's just easier to c/p pieces of comic, or whole panels, if the expression doesn't change anyway, instead of drawing it over and over again. Besides if done right, you don't really notice it!

And now we return to MAPP *silly jingle*

yauhui
19 Jun 2007, 08:44

Paul.Power
19 Jun 2007, 09:33
As I see it, the better an artist someone is (or at the very least, the harder they're trying: I'm no Da Vinci, but I can draw better than I draw in MAPP), the less copy/paste shows up. I remember looking back at some of my early Boot Camp strips and going "Ye gods, that copy/paste looks ugly".

If the expressions don't change then what's the point of the repeated panel?

Copying and pasting is just a lazy shortcut that has no place in proffesional comics.

AndrewTaylor
19 Jun 2007, 16:30
I think it depends. For something hand-drawn, copy-paste sticks out like a sore thumb, but in something like Penny Arcade where the characters are very rigidly defined, it doesn't really make any difference. Personally I prefer the feel when it's hand-drawn, so I make a point of avoiding copy-paste unless there's a good reason, such as repeating a panel (as I've done twice ever).

Cisken1
20 Jun 2007, 08:33

Yes, Paul writes dialogue, I draw. Simple!

Zero72
20 Jun 2007, 09:11
I've obviously used copy/paste for consistent expressions in TIZ72MSPFC more than a few times, and it's largely because I can't actually draw anything consistent. Not exactly trying to make money off it, anyway.

SupSuper
22 Jun 2007, 00:56
Copy-paste can look a bit awful, specially with hand-drawn, but it is handy if the alternate is having your characters look like they can't stand still for one second because you're (third person) not consistent enough.

Paul.Power
22 Jun 2007, 15:51
I didn't really expect this to turn into a discussion on the merits/faults of Copy/Paste

philby4000

You didn't expect a thread made by you to stay on-topic did you?

Because that would be silly.
