View Full Version : Problem: Black screen when trying to run Worms World Party on Vista

I just got a new laptop/notebook with Windows Vista Home Basic on it. For days I've been trying to install and run Worms World Party, but it just won't work. When I double-click 'wwp.exe' or 'Worms World Party.exe' the screen turns black and keeps flickering for several seconds. After that a window appears which says: "Worms World Party has stopped working" (view 'Attached Images')

I've tried (almost) everything to make it work. For example, I tried making it 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)' compatible in the 'Properties > Compatibility' screen. This unfortunately has no effect.

Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Could it just be that the game isn't supported by Vista at the moment? Eep!

i reckon that only certain versions of windows vista wont run worms armaggedon becuase there are people on here who said it runs fine for them... maybe there using release candidates? or the ultimate edition? or something.

Really? You think? Because I had previously thought this thread was a fabrication started by someone who just wanted to start an incompatibility rumour. Apparently I was wrong! Lawks!

I mean honestly. How do you dress yourself in the morning?

Do I need to have my username set to "bonz" to unlock beer joke feature ?

Melon
28 Feb 2007, 14:10
No. Franpa needs to make a beer related ridiculous statement.

Such as, I dunno, "I went to a German beer festival, and I can't believe it's not bitter."

Wait, that was a joke, not a ridiculous statement. Crap.

(Actually, the real reason is because the error generator asked for three buttons, so I just put in a sort of side-forum joke type thing).

I love it! :)
You need to add a combo box where you can choose the franpa alert level.
Including the images. http://nsrt.edgeemu.com/images/franpa-alert/

Xcuse me, but can we please get back to the subject here. We still need to find someone who has a solution to this Vista Worms World Party problem. Don't wast your and everybody else's time talking nonsense. Thank you.

Anyway, does anyone know how to solve this problem? A Vista patch or crack maybe? If so, please post the link on where to find it, or attach it if you will. Thanx.

If you fiddle with compatibility mode you can get it working but only till you restart the machine - I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

Just tried that. Doesn't seem to work. Which compatibility mode should I set it to?

Update your graphics card drivers.

Wrong. WA works on all versions of Vista. The same way WA works on all versions of XP. However, you need certain things for it to work properly, like a monitor, a motherboard, etc.

Can you guys tell me if you have SP1 installed?
My brother and I have the same laptop, with the same operating systems (Vista Home Premium). I have no problem with running Worms World Party AND Worms: Armageddon, but my brother gets the same error message when he tries to launch both games.

The only difference we're aware of is that my Vista's System Language is English and his Turkish

Another difference was SP1 but we're currently installing that and will try with SP1 installed in a few minutes. I'll let you know if it works.

the reason why it doesent work is your graphics card. in some vista machines they have a graphics cards/ chips that does not support direct 3d worms needs direct 3d

in some vista machines they have a graphics cards/ chips that does not support direct 3d worms needs direct 3d
1) It's direct draw, not direct 3D
2) It's the graphics card drivers for Vista that don't support it, not the cards themselves

I got it working by running it as Administrator first. When I knew it worked, I just changed the permissions of the WWP folder that the Users group have read and write rights on the folder and all of it contents. Then I do not need to run it as a Administrator anymore....

Did you try installing the patch from team17 at the wwp website? I had a problem very similar to this and that fixed it.

I have the same problem (The game stops working after the cake loading screen. The menus are fine) on vista home premium. I also have a laptop.

From reading the responses posted here it sounds like this problem mainly affects laptops running vista. What graphics cards do you guys have?

My card is a Nvidia GeForce 9200 GS, with reasonably recent drivers (179.04, released 7/11/08).
