This will probably end up horrifically embarassing for many of us, but here goes nothing.

Thanks to some inexplicable thread movements (perhaps a convoluted form of forum chess?) all ten of my first posts in OD were made before I had access to OD.:-/

And I'm not going to post them because they really are embarasing as hell.

Fine, But I'll post the first ten from when I actually had access to OD. The others shouldn't count. They weren't actually made in OD.

thankfully I don't ask where I can download sonic CD from in those.:p

time to change my sig.

1: here I am in full butt-kissing mode in welcome to OD newcomers (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18546)

I am deeply honoured to have been deemed good enough to have access to this forum.
Star worms has advised me to thank Worm Mad.
Thank you Worm Mad!

Now I'll actualy be in on the bizare things you like to put in your sigs. LOL

LOL.

2- my first post in 100%OT

Humming birds have always fascinated me.

and they still do!

3- The Simply Splendid School End Thread! (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18505)

I had my last ever keystage four lesson today.

A month of tests and then I'm on holiday untill the sixth form jumps me.

4- We've seen your worms art, now let's see your other art! - Strike II (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16804)

I like the idea of this thread.

I like the art in this thread.

I like this thread.

To celebrate my aquisition of a new 70 litre tropical fish tank,
here are some fishes I drew:

This was, of course, before all my tropical fish died.

5- second 100%OT post

HA! Now your list is inacurate!

6- Third 100%OT post

7- back in the welcome thread

I just read the first two sitcoms, nice job Worm Mad!
I was surpised to see my pictures though.

Note: Just out of interest, would you mind if I used one or two of your pics for a project I'm in the process of undertaking? I'd obviously give you full credit for allowing me to use them.
You sly devil you

If you ever need me to draw some more just ask.

8- fourth post in 100%OT.

I've go one week of holiday, then I'll be doing exams for another three weeks. :p

1- The welcome thread
Ooh. Thanks a ton! I was surprised when I saw a new section pop up.
OH THE MYSTERY. OH THE SECRETS. I must say, I never suspected anything. Quite cool, that. Not to mention that it seems like only the cool people can post here. Nice.
It's going to take me a while to browse the archives. At least I know what Kommunisticheckaya tuna vlyublyennosti kotov means, now.

2- Apple's multi touch screen (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28075)
Wow.
It's like you can touch the FUTURE.
Everything in that was cool.
How much would something like that cost, though?
(Hey wait... they patented that for the iPhone, didn't they? OBSERVATIONS OF THE PAST.)

3- Garfield (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28085)
That's both interesting AND hilarious.
And it makes Jon look like even more of a loser.

4- Apple's multi touch screen (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28075)
I was thinking something like that.
But if that could really be their next computer design, that would be NEATOS.
Also, doesn't a tablet screen already exist? I swear that I saw some pictures of them...

5- Garfield (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28085)
I like Garfield myself, but in recent years it's become rather dull, I think.
http://www.wondermark.com/tcsd/stripdoc_5.html
This speaks the truth.
I still stand by my "I like Garfield" comment.
I think it might've actually inspired me, a bit. Just look at the eyes my worms used to have. Overlapping ovals, hmm? SIMILAR.

6- The welcome thread
Your wish is my command.
I actually think that it's a good thing that people don't understand it. If they did, then they'd put it in their sigs. And then it would be old.
In response to "Put Kommunisticheckaya tuna vlyublyennosti kotov" in your sig!"
Said by Futureworm, no less.

7- Garfield (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28085)
I guess we just have to completely ignore the thought bubbles when we read Garfield, eh?

8- 100% OD
If by weird you mean AWESOME.
In response to a comment about Curling.

9- www.[myname].com (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?p=481935#post481935)
Putting down your name in an address box with an extension can sometimes lead to something interesting, or boring.
For some reason, there are hardly any Jack websites out there, unfortunately.

www.jack.org
A generic search site thingy for various casino terms. (Such as blackjack, blackjack, black jack, poker, poker, and jackis) For some reason, I have seen two completely different styles for this site. One had guitars.

www.jack.ru
"Good to you the time of day! This domain have occupied we, with the purpose created on it the useful for us, and the world community the project. Possibly, to us there wakes interesno/vygodno it created combined project. We will support Vas/Vash project by technical, human, etc. by resources. The guarantees of the fact that you not budete thrown out at the moment "appearance it dawned" they were developed, if you this interested - you record."

Pretty pathetic. Especially when compared to what my friend gets.

www.jesse.com
It used to display only a lone "!". Now it reaffirms you that you, indeed, are at jesse.com. Don't you have to PAY for a .com website?

www.jesse.net
The actual site really is Johnathan.com. Why jesse.net links to it is anyone's guess. Apparently, Jesse/Johnathan's favorite place to party is Acapulco, and his favorite whiskey is every brand of whiskey.

www.jesse.org
This seems to change every once in a while. At the beginning, it showed nothing but a weird scribbly thing, then it said "this is the way things are." Next time I checked, it was "this is the way things are. you must dance. what can not reproduce can't survive." I'm guessing that whoever did jesse.com did this one, too.
STATUS UPDATE:
http://www.jesse.com/ still states that, indeed, it is jesse.com.
http://www.jesse.org/ displays a single j in the top-left corner of the screen, and it also fails to load a favicon. Seriously... your webpage is a single j, yet you want to have a favicon for the site?
And I still deeply envy my friend for getting the awesome name.com webpages.

10- Apple's multi touch screen (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28075)
If you were drunk, you probably wouldn't be very good on ANY computer.
I was a wise man, once. Long, long ago.

HA. Fear my lack of embarrassing myself!
Though I guess you could always look at the early posts in my art thread. Oof. Now THOSE are worth blushing over.

Dear god, I was such a retard.Ooh, Pickleworm will be mad when he finds the Dreamcast isn't on there:eek:

And well, the GameCube may have the best graphics, but the Xbox has second best graphics, but is the most powerful. And the PS2 graphics, well they're not good compared to these two.

As for games, the Xbox can have better games because it is more powerful, and will have plently more out soon. The PS2 may have more games, but it is quality not quantity. And the GameCube games I find a lot of them a bit childish now, you know the sort of nintendo games with mario and luigi.

I guess I'll be looking forward to:

Last time I saw snow that was deep enough so it actually looked like snow (not just icy snow on grass, well weeds) was when I was about 4. I seem to remember a day in Yorkshire when the snow was up to my waist, then again I was 4, but the highest I've ever seen.

Umm, perhaps the foggy kind, and dark grey ones all over the sky;)

It's not too late is it, I've been away!

Name: Star Worms
First Appearance: 25.2.03
Condition: Alive and well
Occupation: A website designer
Place of Residnece: Hmm Paul.Power has my lucky number oh wait, no mine is 4096:p I'll add it to the map
Place of Occupation: Home;)
Background: Came from a city to live in the village, a bit of a nutter really. Pretty well off for himself.

::Edit::
Can someone do house number 4096 behind 2 and 3 (The size of both of them:p oh and a nice conservatory and garden.

I kind of messed it up with the camera stuff.

actually I've just sorted it out.

It's meant to be a garden and a conservatory!

::Edit::
I did my best on the road

Meanwhile, Star Worms had just moved into his new home after making money in Leeds, he came roaring down the street in a Ferrari (well as it's not gonna happen in the real world I may as well make the most of it:p). Later in the day, Star Worms got to work as a web designer, only working because of bordem really, so he decided to join macobsession (he is in this isn't he or is it thomasp?) in the battle against Mr Evil...

meanwhile Star Worms was making a plan to destory Mr Evil, but needed SupSuper's and Striker's assistance...

Umm, he didn't, it's fake, just like the ones that gave The Paladin his Permanent Newbie status because he used the same font and size on the top of his avatar to make it look like it was his status, MonkeyforaHead has tried it too.

My first (excluding the threads that got moved here) don't seem too bad, just me being a little confused, and it wasn't long enough ago for me to be embarrassed about how I used to be yet.

This explains the new slightly bizzare looking section that didn't quite make sense... I've just got back from a sleep deprevated week long camp and wasn't sure if this was entirely real (it's been that sort of a week).

Well, hello! I'd never have guessed this place existed.

Well that's explained things a bit.

I like the way I can see who voted for me in the invite poll though :) to be honest I'm a little surprised you thought me suitable, but hey, thanks anyway.

Pretty much. At least, after I realised this wasn't just a new section to the forum that had appeared since I'd been away.

(all for PC)

edit: oh, and mac/linux (anything better than windows - or dos, for that matter ;))I did get all those games. Eventually.

i would also state my reasons for NEVER getting near an x-box, but many ppl have already done it.

anways, related to this "new topic":

Ooh, fun.

I actually have no major objections to macs. I like the way they have menus at the top of the screen so I can move my mouse "past" them and still not "miss". I don't know exactly why, but they are noticably faster than windows computers (in my experience). I would not be comfortable using a mac, however, because I don't know where the system settings are and I know/own no mac programming tools. HOW CAN YOU USE A COMPUTER WITHOUT PROGRAMMING TOOLS?

Odd. The One Menu has turned into my most major objection to Macs: I can't use it properly with focus follows mouse.

I'm not saying there is none. There must be programming software. It's just that I don't own or know any. They certainly don't have visual basic, the only language I can use to make system calls (or vc++ if I have to).

1. Is there firewall software akin to ZoneAlarm that tells me when any program attempts to access the internet or run as a server and gives me the option not to allow it?

2. Is there a simple (scripting?) language I can use to make system calls?

3. Is there software akin to startup control panel and startup monitor that tells me exactly when something registers to be executed on startup and exactly what programs are registered for that, giving me the option to edit the list?

4. Can I play PC games like worms? :-/

5. Is there a good c++ compiler and/or java runtime? There's a wealth of good software written in java/c++ and much of it will need to be compiled. Are there libraries that can emulate MFC that I can use with c++ projects? Or it'd be easier if I could somehow run the PC software. Hm...

Is it possible there was a forum glitch and that post was really written by someone else?

A while ago I posted a poll about releasing the wormnet protocol. As it is, the WormNET protocol is insecure. Which is why there's a patch and all of this stuff most of you probably already know.

I promised a while that IF spadge said it was ok, I would, after the final patch is released and the old WA wormnet is no longer available, I would release my knowledge of the wormnet protocol to the public. I still fully intend to keep this promise and only release that information if I am asked to. The advantage of releasing the old protocol is that people will be able to create their own small wormnet servers so that WA can play online with at least a few people right out of the box. I don't expect the final patched version to have backward connectivity, but I have found a way to keep multiple versions of worms installed in the same place at the same time. It may or may not still work when the patch is released. The other advantage is that if Fudge Boy takes off the warning (never going to happen) or someone who is enlightened enough to know how to play online with the fiddler (I'm told they exist, but I really can't be sure) lets us in on their secret (because at that time they wouldn't be able to cheat on the official wormnet server), we'd be able to play fiddler schemes online. I think that once it is enabled it will prove that SOME people can use the fiddler to create good, fun, schemes. Some will not, but they can do what they want as long as they don't bother us (and they can be banned if they do).

Anyway, since then, I realized that wwp before the service pack used the same protocol wa is now using. I don't know what it uses now because I haven't done anything involving the wwp protocol since the service pack was released. None. I have no idea how secure the wwp protocol is and I have no intention of losing my wwp-sp1 virginity when I can just ask and hope someone who knows it comes along.

"backward connectivity"? "wwp-sp1 virginity"? Who is this person who was using my account?

The reason I'm willing to keep quiet is because I have concern for team17 and for worms. I don't want to ruin anyone's ability to play online by releasing this information. I don't want to hurt Team17 in the process, either. I wouldn't do it on a whim, but 6 months SHOULD be long enough.

But what happens if the 6 months do run out? I release it, and people find ways to prevent wormnet servers from working. What they've done with IE, creating a game with a longer-than-normal name becomes much easier. It also becomes possible to play online independently of wormnet, but the wormnet-disrupting tools will grow far faster than the playing-online tools. And I don't really want to make third-party software, or a patch, necessary to play online.

And, of course, someone could easily release it before I do. I have more informatin than most about rankings/logins, but other than that most of what I know isn't hard to sniff out.

I just want to do what's best for the community and team17. And I don't think releasing protocol info before there's any patch, helps either.

6 months? Since when did I have that kind of attention span?

The reason I have this in "open" discussion is that I don't want lots irrelevant or dilatory posts. I don't know what dilatory means or if I spelled it right, but I heard someone use it the other day and it seems to fit here.

dilatory: adjective: wasting time

I've been using Bayesian filtering for about a month and it seems to work very well. I wouldn't rely on it completely, but I could easily scan the junk folder for any false positives once a week or so and save a lot of time.

true. luckily those mails usually have unsubscribe links at the bottom. if spam has unsubscribe link / instructions, it's my favourite kind of spam ;) (unless it's a fake, it happens sometimes)

Actually, fake unsubscribe messages on spam help because Bayesian filtering can recognize them. ;)

Yeah, that doesn't work so well anymore. Gmail FTW.

So, if I were sitting here, eating some cherry or apple pie, which are very good...or even key lime pie, and I happened to mention something about the rules of this thread, would my post be deleted for being off of the off topic? Or what if I started talking about pi, which actually goes down measurably in a book I've read (I think it has something to do with space being distorted ever so slightly so they can do some neat stuff), which they find out because they have a tool that measures the value of pi and several other constants, and which is something I want to have?

Oh man. A pi-meter. A machine that constantly measures the value of pi and prints it out for you. How cool would that be? I still want one.

I kind of left the forum in the middle of May and kind of stopped posting before that, with no announcement. I have returned to find out that absolutely nothing has happened. Ok, I'm sure a lot has happened at t17 related to worms 3 but besides that...

Fudge boy seems to have left the forums before I did. As a beta tester, I have recieved no new information from him, nor do I expect to any time soon.

It also seems that I may have to give in to a suggestion I got earlier about the wormnet protocol: give a date to release that information. Not that the majority of it is information that people haven't figured out themselves, they have. At the same time I will release information given to me by ed webb about how to use the fiddler online. The reason I feel I can let this information out is that I can wait until such a time as it won't harm security of wormnet or integrety of information obtained on wormnet. So the date I have set is this: exactly 3 months after worms 3 and the last new free downloadable software supporting worms 3 is released, or the release of the final wa patch, whichever comes first. So, in theory, team17 could release worms 3 and put off the release of my information by releasing something new every 2.9 months. I seriously doubt that this will happen.

Hmm, I think I'd better reread the license agreement. Now where is that thing? Ah, here it is:

You may not modify, enhance, supplement, create derivative work from, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise reduce the CD-ROM to human readable form.

Hmm, supplement:

: to add or serve as a supplement to

1 : something that completes or makes an addition <dietary supplements>
2 : a part added to or issued as a continuation of a book or periodical to correct errors or make additions
3 : an angle or arc that when added to a given angle or arc equals 180°

Looks like I have a difficult line to walk. At the moment all I can think of that may have violated that license is my releasing a modified serverlist.htm.

It also appears my agreement is with hasbro interactive and not team17. Weird.

Posts that involve the WormNET protocol do not age well.

If anything that can't go through http://validator.w3.org/ doesn't work on some browsers, it's the fault of the web designer. Almost no web pages are valid.

I should have noted that even if it does pass, it still may be the web designer's fault, if the correct result is not the intended result.

Go to www.mlin.net and download Startup Control Panel and Startup Monitor. Install Startup Monitor and use Startup Control Panel to turn off the things you don't need or can't identify run on startup. Probably something is running on startup to change the start page.

Edit: Oh yeah, you'll want to say "no" to anything new that wants to run on startup unless there's a reason why you would want it to (such as creating a systray icon). Then reboot (to clear out anything evil that's still running) and see if it works.

DO IT! DO IT NOW! BEFORE SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO YOU!

Or just don't use Windows.

gamecube, it has better games
most of the ps2 and xbox(specially xbox) games are reallistic, and Gamecube has more unrealistic games
nintendo has always had nice graphics games
for example, Chrono Trigger(one of my favorite games) had nice graphics in Snes, but when they made Chrono cross for ps, i didn't liked the graphics, they looked a lot different than the original game
i wish i could see a Chrono Trigger in gamecube
or at least a super mario rpg

Man... I completely forgot that I still hadn't quite evolved from Idiot when OD first went up. I was getting there, but still definitely in the Idiot phase. I think the Kyira incident was what kicked me off towards where I am now (although I guess I'm still a bit of an idiot.)

Smileys removed because I use(d) too freakin' many of them. :-/ :( :p :)

lol, boy, that was a close one! I wasn't sure if we'd make it through this "statewide emergency!" lol, I suppose I shouldn't make fun, since somewhere around here somebody might actually have had some trouble or something. I dunno.

We got about a foot here, but I think there's supposed to be more on the way. Needless to say, I stayed inside.

Utterly elitist? Why yes, why do you ask? Muahahahaaaaaa!

Ditto.

Edit: The PS2 runs a close second because of the excellent game selection. The joysticks on the controller are terrible, though. Don't even get me started on that horrible heap of electronic nonsense the X-Box is trying to pass off as a controller.

No school again for me today, though it's barely still snowing. It's more of a pleasant atmospheric snow than anything else.

Calvin and Hobbes are the best!
Eskimo Bob is cool.

But leave us not forget Bob and George (http://www.bobandgeorge.com).

Edit: Mostly for Mega Man fans, but fun for the whole family nonetheless.

Battening down the hatches tonight. Supposed to start with the rain and freezing rain mix at about midnight-ish and continue all weekend. Expecting some flooding in the lower elevations in my rather near vicinity.

"You're banned!" If anybody here should be grateful for his respectable status, it's me. Not only have I been guilty of quite a few spam-tinted posts, but let's not forget all the arguments I used to get into.

Runner up would be the X-Box one! NOOOO! X-Box is EVIL!

lol, thanks for your concern. No problems yet, but I think we're still expecting more. Supposed to turn to snow sooner or later too, I think. According to the extended forecast, we here in Pennsylvania are in for all kinds of nasty weather all week. Mostly snow. I actually hope we don't miss many more school days- I have plans for the summer!

I thought Microsoft was being way too ambitious too. I projected failure as soon as I heard about the X-Box, and just about everything I've seen so far suggests that it remains the least popular of the present-generation consoles. Of course, Microsoft wouldn't let you know that. They can still advertize the hell out of it simply because they can afford to.

I've always been a hardcore Nintendo fan, BTW. I've owned every system, except for the Virtual Boy, of course.

The Saturn had Worms 1 and Virtual On, and that was about it, eh? And I seem to be the only one who really likes Virtual On.

Edit: Oh yeah, there was also a special anniversary edition of Mega Man 8 released on the Saturn as well. Wish I could've seen that.

This is what growing up listening to nothing but Creationist claptrap does to you, people.

Apparently, back in the early days, I made a huge deal out of
a. being PinkWorm's friend
b. being a Christian
Finally you've come to your senses.
I have blacklisted you and Horigan as the forum's hardcore Christian propaganda dorks.
Now Horigan is alone again. :D

I'm still a Christian, but I've come to realize the importance of critical thought. :p

In all fairness, though, I was only 13 when I made those posts.
