my older brother has a 360, but when he puts any origanal xbox game in it, it says..well i kinda forget, but somthing about the 360 not being updated enough and you need to go on the internet to update it? aren't origanal xbox games suppose to play on the 360?

SOME can, but as far as I know you need to download some sort of official 'patch' type thing for that particular game. So the 360 does have backwards compatability, but you need to be subscribed to Xbox live and download it.

And most games don't have this download, only the big ones. No Serious Sam, unfortunately.
