View Full Version : Worms XBLA: Themes, Gamerpics, -Soundbanks- ?

Has there been any official (or semi-official) announcement of content relating to worms? I'd at least like to see some gamerpics of worms and maybe tombstones. A Dashboard theme would be nice too, something simple with maps in the background maybe. I would definitely purchase content like this - I hope it goes into consideration!

And how about editable and/or downloaded sound banks for your worm teams? I loved this part of the Worms series, and it really helped to get my friends into the game when I would give their team a custom soundbank from a character or movie that they liked.

Some sites have the achievement list with pictures. I don't think we are allowed to link to them yet.

I'm really hoping that there'll be a dash theme or two available. Those artists at T17 make really cool promotional images, so I'm sure they could work wonders on my dash, too. Gamerpics could be cool, as well. I'd specifically like to see the worm with the 'zooka...Classic.

Ashame there hasn't been an announcement yet... read about this on IGN.com - would have been nice to have an official word.

I've seen achievement lists, screenshots, and even videos... all before it's announced? Shameful! heh.

It does look like the weapon selection has been stripped down removing some of the lesser used weapons, and supers weren't anywhere to be found in the screenshots/videos but surely they wouldn't take out those and the Homing Pigeon and Holy Hand Grenade...

I heard that at CES the game was pretty much done, just one bug to work out... so I hope Team17 hurries up and gets this thing out!

I for one will be buying the moment its available... been waiting for a new 2D worms for a long time (still playing the Dreamcast version of WA, actually).

The weapon set has been stripped down to mostly weapons from the original "Worms". The only differences, assuming the weapon set is the same as Worms: Open Warfare, is that the Minigun is missing, as is the Bungee, but we have a Jetpack to compensate for the latter. The Ninja Rope is still in though and behaves mostly as it did in W2/WA/WWP.

Various sources, including Spadge's own blog, say it's still in certification and is, for all intents and purposes, finished. Shame I don't have access to Partnernet, I love to get a hands on go of this game...

Yes it's still being tested. A few minor points need clearing up before it can be passed for distribution. The game itself has been finished for some time, but the testing, re-testing/fixing loops tend to take their time I'm afraid. We'd hoped it'd have been with you all by now.

I wish I had not given my Dreamcast to my nephew several years ago, the WA game was excellent fun. I still play it on the PC, but I really enjoy sitting my butt on the couch more than my computer chair. I think I may still have the original Worms game for the PS1, I wonder if it plays in a PS2

you don't know the power of the darkside. but yeah, the drill was fairly useless even for darksiding. digging straight down makes you an easy target for something like a banana bomb, if someone can get into your tunnels. at least, with the blow torch you have some retreat ability.

Spadge you know how you said about "most likely" not releasing weapons thru the marketplace as everyone would need them, it could be possible to release new weapons thru an update so then every one would get it as the new update would be avaialable for them to download when they next start the game up. It would be good to be free as im sure Team 17 aren't stngy like the other arcade games ( I mean Lumines Live make you buy the MP section!!!). Every one would appreciate new weapons for free if its possible especially the holy hand grenade as on other forums I have seen many people complain about there being no holy hand grenade.

Heck you could just relase the holy hand grenade by itself and everyone would be happy!!

quakerworm
27 Jan 2007, 02:50
that's not a bad idea. if their main concern really is the new players, they can release an update with hhg, super sheep, and a few other such weapons in a few months after release as an update. by then, most people who are interested in worms would have some time to practice, and they'd be ready to expand their arsenals.

I'm hardly the official word on this, but I've always assumed that Team 17 considered the wepons first, before they did anything else to the game. In fact, I believe that they'd have been crazy not to code the game engine and weapons first.

So, if the game was built from the weapons up, then they must have decided from the beginning what weapons to include and what not to include. I haven't seen many screenshots (I haven't been looking for them), but maybe the landscapes are a bit smaller? Team 17 must have had reasons for not including weapons like the Holy Grenade. Maybe they've made some changes that make those weapons unsuitable or entirely unbalanced? The banana bomb is still in isn't it? I think that the banana is entirely suitable for the one 'big weapon' in my opinion, although I do personally like the HHG.

So maybe from the start Team 17 has wanted to make this version contain only the smaller, less powerful weapons for strategy reasons (as Spadge as said), and so I can't honestly see them adding any more weapons. Anway, more weapons at this stage would mean more testing which means more delay....

But if Team 17 is going to have downloadable content then they can do it. I just want the Holy Hand grenade I am really good at that. But I do agree with you on one thing Melon if they did but more weapons and other stuff into the game right now there would be even further delays and we will have to wait longer for it to come out.

Assuming it's the same as Worms: Open Warfare, this is a nice, simple, back-to-basics Worms games without all of the complex stuff that developed since Worms 2. To be honest, that's fine by me. I reckon I dip into the original Worms more often than any other game in the series anyway.

Yeah they probably did build this game with the weapon mechanics in mind. Therefore, they coded for weight, payload, etc. That means that behind that regular grenade is some code that tells its how many times to bounce in different situations and how to explode. Remember the early days with Worms 2 I believe, there were a lot of sliders and options to customize how the grenades and other weapons would react and explode. If that was not 2, please forgive me it has been a while. Now they may have not left there game open enough to allow the flexibility for the interface to grow with the inclusion of more weapons, but if they did, then add a new graphic of the HHG and apply the grenade code to it. Adjust the gravity, weight, bounce, explosion to match and voila!! A new weapon. There is always the issue of balance if a new weapon was introduced this way.

Basically, they dont have to code each weapon specifically each time. They built the basics of how weapons, enviroments and worms interact with each other. Then with each new weapon, code is applied and adjusted around the game mechanics.

Personally, I wouldnt get my hopes up for new weapons. Thats usually where sequels come in. If they gave it all to us know, we would have to wait longer and there would be nowhere for the game to move forward to. Each new platform a game goes to there are always new challenges for the developer. This being T17's first 360 game, we have to let them get their feet wet. If we all buy and love this worms game, it will hopefully lead them to continue their support of the platform and make either a full retail game, expansions or another Arcade worms. I just hope this is Worms:Open Warfare. I love 2d worms and 3d worms but the weakest showing in a long time was by far W:OW.

Of course they did, otherwise the weapons wouldn't do anything. How redundant a statement.

Yeah... no. Let's not.

You've already said this, and it's still an utterly redundant statement to make.

Or expansion packs. Like, say, Worms Reinforcements or Worms Armageddon (which was originally going to be an expansion).

Hi, I'm rather ignorant when it comes to Worms. The only version I've ever played was the original PS1 game. My friends and I would spend many weekends playing that game. Great times.

Anyway, I had some questions and was wondering if anyone might know the answers. Are the levels randomly generated in all Worms games, like the PS1 version? I see that the Super Sheep isn't being included, was there a normal Sheep weapon? Will there be any kind of Sheep weapon is where I'm going with this? That was my favorite, only because of the high pitched, "Baaaa" and huge explosion. Fantastic. What about Air Strikes?

Thanks for whatever enlightenment you can provide.

I look forward to buying this game. One of the few where I won't even bother with the demo first.

Hi Geocab. Welcome to the forum :) I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.

Are the levels randomly generated in all Worms games, like the PS1 version?
Pretty much every Worms game includes random map generation barring the Game Boy Classic/Color/Advance, MegaDrive and SNES versions of the games which have pre-designed maps.

I see that the Super Sheep isn't being included, was there a normal Sheep weapon? Will there be any kind of Sheep weapon is where I'm going with this? That was my favorite, only because of the high pitched, "Baaaa" and huge explosion. Fantastic.
The original sheep was included in Worms: Open Warfare for the PSP, on which Worms XBLA appears to be based, so it's a safe bet to say it's going to be included. It's a staple of the games now (despite having been added to the original game at the last minute, according to Andy Davidson) so to ommit it would be close to sacrelidge!

What about Air Strikes?
Again, these were included in W:OW, and they look lovely :)

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

That's good to hear. When I was browsing through the threads and I saw that the Super Sheep wasn't being included in this game, I was worried. But, knowing that there's a normal sheep weapon is just fine with me. The core game of Worms is what kept me playing and it seems that's what Team 17 has gone back to. I can't wait!

:D I told you, I've only played the first Worms on PS1. I haven't experienced a lot of those. I do like the sounds of the Holy Hand Grenade, maybe I'll be able to see that one day. :D

As for an XBLA release for tomorrow, we're probably not goint to see anything. Usually something would have leaked by now. Oh well, Worms is my most anticipated title right now and since it's not coming tomorrow, I don't really care what is.

Check this thread (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=21843) about worms merchandise.
I have listed lots of suggestions.

Personally, I'd like to see a Worms playing card game with game mechanics like in this game (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3955).
With roles that have different winning conditions, characters with different abilities, weapons, defences, ammunition, etc.

Otherwise, a simple 52 cards deck to play poker would be fine.

I know there are a few people who'd like to see a Warhammer style Worms table top battle game, and there's an unofficial one called "Worminators" if you look on Google, but an official one with properly modelled Worms would be cracking, especially if the grittier designs from the 1st generation of Worms games were used.

Basically every sound that a team's worms make - the one-liners, threats, grunts, screams, etc. It does not affect the weapon sound effects.

On the PC versions you can create your own using .wav files, and there are some really nice collections out there. A lot of them became hard to find as they sampled sound bites from movies and TV shows, but they can still be found.

gusius
27 Feb 2007, 11:47
The very first version on the PC had multiple sound banks that you could select for your team, i.e. Scottish Accent, Yorkshire Tykes, Scousers, it was genius! I'd love to see that back in it. Nailing a Scottish Worm on the head with the Holy Hand Grenade and hearing him yelp "ooooohhh noooo" in a scottish accent was classic.

Also, Spadge, the original intro music if you would! Amazing!
