The "Foul Smelling Buffalo Of Lies" is the darksider's god of course, the Concrete Donkey the lightsider's one.

The question is, whose god is the "Angular Wooden Giraffe" and when will we get it as a weapon?

KRD

The AWG is of course the god and protector of the greysiders. Which is why it's half coloured and half B&W.

And once it does make it into a game as a weapon, can it please be... burning (http://www.dali-gallery.com/images/works/1937_01.jpg)?

And the Buffalo of Lies is the Brightside?

Well I mixed them up. It didn't make much sense to be that the Buffalo of lies was a lightsider weapon, mainly because of the name.

However now that they've (t17) finally made the buffalo into a weapon it makes no sense to me.

To attack with the buffalo of lies and do massive harm to the opposition one would need to do a lightsider move, that is, get out of their darksiding spot (if they're in one) move to wherever the enemies are and drop the weapon.
To attack with the donkey though one could be hiding in a darksiding spot. It's illogical in my eyes,Airstrikes (which work the same way as the donkey) Homing missiles, Aqua sheeps, are all darksider's weapon, and the only reason is that you can adopt the darksiding style of play, and use them to your advantage, you can't do this with the buffalo.

And this is where my confusion came from.

Hmm.
Could it be that I once saw a photograph of a T17 HQ desktop where The Angular Wooden Giraffe was affixed on or near a computer monitor? Or was that my imagination?

And I'm quite sure that some teamster (Spadge? Luther?) once said that one ear has broken off the Giraffe's head.

BTW, if you install T17's original Wormnet snooper you can find an AWG avatar and a sound sample of it's yell (among many other's including the donkey and buffalo).

How is there so much detail about a character in the worms series that never ever comes into play?

EDIT: Just for fun, I typed Angular Wooden Giraffe into google and all it suggested was the article on "Cat"....

Maybe the WA players that care most? Or you expecte new people coming everyday just to post here?

Anyways, I'm thinking about something... if Wormkit works with the last beta... and that one is the next one... maybe... the water color change... is enabled...

Or maybe wormkit also works there. (or CS knows how to trigger it proffesionally) :p

CyberShadow
22 May 2007, 21:39
Most of WormKit's modules don't depend on W:A's versions, and might ever work with WWP or any other programs (notably, the wkFileOverride module, which allowed to substitute the water file instead of the one on the CD). wkReplayShark and wkMagic1 would need some changes, though.

cybershadow if we have both mines and barrels, will we be able to have say 150 mines and 100 barrels? or must it always be a even number of each?

ShootMe
23 May 2007, 04:32
it will be just like it is now only instead of 8 total objects(barrels and mines) it will be 250 max

franpa
23 May 2007, 05:14
we cant set the number of objects as is, so are you saying it will always be 250?

we can set timer, what objects, and dud mines if applicable.

ShootMe
23 May 2007, 05:15
1-30 by 1, 35-100 by 5, 110-250 by 10 is what you can choose, as well as if its just mines, just barrels, both, or neither, timer on mines, and if there are duds

franpa
23 May 2007, 05:21
but you can't specify number of mines and number of barrals seperatly can you? like i might want 100 barrals and 50 mines... would i be able to do this or not?

ShootMe
23 May 2007, 05:25
only a single number

franpa
23 May 2007, 06:08

If so, I hope they've fixed the delay problems for scales of justice and utilities. And maybe allowed us to choose an alternative method for super weapon crate drops that allows them to work more like the way standard weapons appear (if you get what I mean)

same scheme format, just that now the game will recognize higher values for everything.

so maybe a nana can do more then 150 damage per cluster? (excluding double damage)

Yes, in Worms Open Warfare 2, which is soon to be released for PSP and DC, although it differs a bit how it has long been suggested how such a darksider weapon could work.

Also, some Buffalo of Lies crates that had evil effects were available in W4M, not a weapon per se.

what was the point in this thread? all that has happened is that the developers are teasing us, i thought they would release it when it is done, but apparently they and the alpha testers love teasing people who don't have access to the alpha... why must this wait for 1 person? yes he helped code it... but he coded it so that the public can use it did he not? why is it being kept private after it has bee finalized? (well, we heard it was finalized)

just release it, i don't mean any disrespect to deadcode, but what is the point in making something if only a select few can use it?

Melon
25 May 2007, 12:08
Actually, CyberShadow never wanted to make this thread. Read the first post again. This is the problem with telling us what's happening with the patch, people get impatient.

If it were down to Dc and SC, they'd never have told us, but the alpha got leaked and we all knew about it, so he thought he might as well come clean.

If I'd been working hard on something in my free time for over a year, I'd be pretty miffed if someone went and released it before I was ready. We don't know why Deadcode isn't here, but I'm pretty sure there's a very valid reason for him not showing up. He's pretty busy from what I can gather.

Can't we all just show a bit of patience and respect for these guys? It's not like they ask for anything in return. There hasn't been an update in nearly a year and a half due to the massive work that's been needed to be put into this, so what difference will another month or two make?

Of course, I've got nothing to do with the alpha-testers or the update or anything, so my opinions here really aren't important, and I only know things from what I've read.

franpa
25 May 2007, 12:15
im not impatient, im just annoyed at how everything was handled, yes they should not and did not want to make this thread. but they did so yea they can't undo that now.

they should NOT allow alpha versions of the game to access channels that the beta version can access then along side the alpha have a hacked beta that allows access to the restricted channel, thus no one would ever see anyone use a alpha and alpha testers can use the hacked beta for testing the alpha for backwards compatibility.

yes they are busy, but they have said that it is done, thus the only reason we are waiting is because someone isnt here... the only reason deadcode has is that he is busy with something else, why must everyone that plays W:A have to wait for him to finish whatever he is doing?

again, he said he makes these updates for the public to use, yet the public isn't allowed access to the finished product...

Oh, he's no longer lost - last he was online was 2 days ago. There are some security settings that need to be finalized with the big maps (unless you'd like to get DOSed by unsuspectedly joining a game and instantly trying to load a 32000x32000 map). Also, the changes that were made to allow the flexible object count make it very easy to also raise the number of worms to the practical maximum (48, 8 worms in 6 teams), so we'll be rolling in that as well.

We know that you're all eagerly waiting for the update, but there is a possibility that after this beta we won't release any updates for a long time (as we'll be concentrating on 4.0), so we'd at least like to give you something to play with meanwhile :D

Look, I didn't really ask you for all that info, I don't really care. I don't understand why you give me your background story on how you got to be an alpha tester, it seems you're comparing yourself to me (amongst others), specially when we get to the 'nag' bit, I suggest you don't compare two things when you totally ignore one of them.

All I'm saying is you shoulda learned by now that there's people who are a bit tired of the same people over and over giving out reasons and defending the whole alpha testing, wether or not it's a coincidence these people all have access to the "private" programs is not up to me to decide, but you can't blame people for thinking logically.

Sorry if you took my post as if I was questioning why you're in the alpha testing, it wasn't my intention, you're probably a great coder and trustworthy person, and I'm sure you've found loads of bugs and gave ideas for the new beta patches, but that doesn't take away the fact you're defending the case from the easy side.

Yakuza... imagine there is no alpha... WHAT DO YOU WIN? Actually, you'd have to wait MORE.
the alpha's emulate the latest beta, thus there is no point or gain (entertainment wise) for ME... if anything it is just a tease getting told when everyone lights that someone has the alpha...

but batty ropes is different, there IS a increase in entertainment to ME which is why i dont beg for that... it is a nice treat to play someone with it.

for online play, the alpha testers should be smart enough to have multiple versions installed, and there could be a separate channel which only the alpha's will see, and to get the beta's to see it maybe make a new server file or something... which gives them access to the special channel as well... thus alpha testers can test backwards compatibility without teasing beta testers.

You love it really. I'm just happy that theres a new update about to be released. I don't particularly mind when; I'm quite content know that it will appear at some point in the near future.

Nice thread, this.:)

I'm not an alpha tester and I defend it all. Does that make me an illogical exception?

If all Woogles are Wuugloidss and all Wuuggloids are Weeglis that doesn't mean all Weeglis are Woogles.

If you don't want to be teased, don't read this thread. No one is going to go on WormNET and force you previews of new features down your throat.

uhm... sorry m8, but someone on AG shoved me and probably others a replay down my throat (u really took the words out of my mouth) with worms shooting downwards, veryvery fast wormselect and some other thingies - accompanied by "this is alpha, pls dont tell anyone, just have a look at how much fun this is..." how should I interpret that?

1) The things you've described don't have anything to do with an alpha version. Shooting the rope downwards is an old bug which has been re-enabled in the TestStuff3 version - see this thread (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=32599) for details. "Very fast worm select" can be done using a simple macro program - like Constipated Silkworm (http://wiki.thecybershadow.net/Constipated_Silkworm).
2) None of the official alpha testers would display such behavior. The person you encountered was just trying to show off.
3) Don't forget that there is a leaked (and quite unstable) alpha version going around, which is no longer endorsed by us.

1) and 3) cancel each other out.

And I don't know how you're so sure about 2), it wouldn't be the first time.

I was stating it as a generic reminder.

Well I was just pointing out in case he understood the numbers as proofs of why his claims are wrong, that's why anyone would use numbers Capt., so you could aswell skipped number three as it's completely irrelevant.

As for me having to prove 2), is there any need? We both know being an alpha tester has been abused in the past just to "show off" or whatever.

He's talking about lying to people about the teststuff versions being alphas, Yakuza, not people with access to the teststuff versions hosting games with it. Last I checked, most people quite enjoyed that and DC never had anything against it.

On the other hand, some of the people who somehow got their hands on a leaked version of teststuff have been known to try and sell [even literally] it as an alpha before. Can't do much about that, other than repeatedly point out they're hardly the same. And the leaked alpha is little more than the crude beginnings of the recent alphas, so hopefully nobody can be fooled into thinking that's recent.

guys there a solution to all of this......assuming that you guys are done with big maps, since your working on object amounts. or are at least close to it. Why don't you just release one big feature like big maps, or just something big, and that will shut the majority of people up for now while you can work on finishing the current patch your making?

Also, the changes that were made to allow the flexible object count make it very easy to also raise the number of worms to the practical maximum (48, 8 worms in 6 teams), so we'll be rolling in that as well.

Why has nobody else mentioned this, that is incredible news, thanks guys :D

Something tells me you didn't read this post:

Now quit yer whining and be patient ffs.

Here, look at Ren.

I would like to take this opportunity to complain that this update business has been handled terribly. I'm aware that this is an eight year old game we're talking about, and that we're lucky to be getting any updates at all for it, as am I aware that it is being handled by volunteers who are not paid in any way for their time and/or effort but I must still raise protest at the abysmal work being done here.

Cough.

Guess what you are getting from all this complaints? total silence until the release, if not total desmotivation first.

Everyone wanted information, and now we see they shouldn't have had it. So, no more info, until the patch comes. Can you agree with that?

i admire there work, tho i have not seen any solid proof that they have done anything... it is still pictures or just discussing it... how do we know they arnt just being lazy *******s to **** everyone off?

we don't know simply because the alpha emulates the latest beta thus hiding any proof that work is being done... with batty ropes, there are replays and well, when you play people who have it it becomes rather obvious that it is not normal.

create a replay with the latest alpha demonstrating all the new features then convert it to AVI... thus you can prove you have worked on this game...

I don't feel that I (or any of the alpha testers) have to prove anything to you. I'm not being paid by anyone, nor do I have any obligations in front of the playerbase or Team17 (except obviously not leaking out stuff or information). Aside from W:A, I also a life, which includes University and a part-time job (sort of). If you are dissatisfied with my responsibility or performance, you're welcome to find and suggest another coder to Team17, that's both willing and capable to write updates for an 8-year-old game. I'll be more than happy to make room for someone who's more suited for this task.

This thread has taken too much of my time and brain cells already. Thread locked until further notice. If you're unhappy with that, you know who's to blame.
