I have purchased and installed Worms 3D for my son but when I click on play, a 'runtime error!' 'abnormal program termination' pops up.

Check for Updates informs me that I have the latest running Worms 3D version v.1073 EU!

The videos and sound appear to work OK from Worms 3D launcher, the error pops up a few moments after clicking 'play'.

I have a core duo processor runing Windows MCE and a GeForce 7300 with the latest Nvidia drivers with directX 9.0c.

Any ideas?

First things first, try reinstalling the game. You never said you did, so that could be helpful.

Oh, and is it a CD version, or a Trymedia aka Trygames downloadable version? Both are legal, but it would help to know which one (you said you purchased it so I assume it is legal).

Anyway, thanks for giving all that information. Some people just come along and say "I bought the game and it doesn't work on my computer. Help!" and expect us to instantly know what their system specs are, what happens on launch (ie errors), not to mention which game it is!

By the way, I'm also from Hampshire!

I am experiencing the same situation on my daughter's PC. One differnce between my set up and comsci is I have an ATI Radeon X1300 Pro graphics card.

Mine is a CD version and I have tried reinstalling. It runs fine on an older pentium IV with a NVIDIA GeForce 5200 - but my daughter doesn't have access to that machine!

Any help please.

Thanks for the speedy response.

The game is the CD version from PCGamer.

I have tried un-installing and re-installing several times with and without the network play option. All result with the same error.

I'm in Ringwood on the Hants / Dorset border!

What, a coverdisk demo? (sorry if i'm wrong, it's been a while since i used pc gamer). Try downloading the demo from worms3d.com and see if that helps. If it's not a demo, then i don't know.

No. It's a full version ( 2 CDs) from www.mastertronic.com under the logo 'PCGamer presents...'. I think it's games that PC Gamer has rated at 80% or more. But then I've never read or seen the mag!

Anyway, I've now found a work around and son is happy :-)

I created a shortcut on the desktop and ticked the box for Windows 2000 compatibility mode under properties. I've no idea why this should work for my system but it does! Unticking the box also reverts to the errror behaviour.

Very weird! It works fine on XP with me in non-compatability mode!

Oh well, at leasy you found a fix :)
