MAD = Mock Avatar Day

MAD is an event that takes place on the forum about every 6 months to a year. When a new MAD has been decided to go ahead, we pick a forumer's avatar to mock or ridicule (or sometimes just to imitate). We can create several mocks, but we generally only use one.

After creating our mocks, we wait for the event to arrive. When MAD reaches us, we all switch our avatars to our mocks. We then keep our mocks used during the event (lasting anywhere between 3 days to a week).

Many people ask why it's called Mock Avatar Day, when it lasts longer. However MAW doesn't sound as good as MAD.


Now, I suggest a load of you people stick a line in your sig saying: M.A.D 5 - http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30807
It helps if you have relatively empty sigs.

Well I started animating for the first time 3 days ago. And I'm the worst drawer that I know, but I'm gonna join in for the hell of it (this should be interesting). Still, I have at least 1 day left to improve my work, depending on when this does actually take place. (Next Monday or Wednesday?)

Yeh, I mean I can manipulate non-sprite animations in Flash, but then it exports the gif movie as seperate frames, so I end up with 100 or so frames of my animation saved as different animations which I have to put together by hand :mad: ... it never used to do that...

Whenever I export a .gif from Flash, no matter what the framerate is, it always comes out the same slow speed.

Easy solution - Don't use Flash. Learn to animate with a pathetically simple program, like animation shop 1.

Or, you can draw each individual frame and then stack them as layers, and turn it into a gif using GIMP. It's what I do, and I love inefficient methods...

Got mine at the ready, lousy Paint flappage, but you can still know what it is. :p

Oh no. I've done mine. No task I set out to do is too difficult, it just may be more challenging (which this wasn't really). I was merely making a comment. I suppose fashions do change.

It's quite a simple, basic and poor mock. In fact, it depends if you consider what I've done as actually mocking it.

It's gone even more terribly wrong than before now.

I mean, it's still not a really bad idea, and some of them are always pretty funny, but I really get tired of having all my avatar-to-user associations screwed up.
