View Full Version : CutWorm v1.17 Beta Release

Etho
10 Oct 2006, 20:06
CutWorm is an external hack program for WWP and WormNet2 I created to increase the enjoyment of WWP players. It has many beneficial functions such as:

1. Allowing players to keep in touch with each other better. (snooper, ingame PM's, dynamic away messages, player logs, etc.)
2. Helping players to configure their internet settings so that they can host games. (information, automatic external IP finder, address overide, etc.)
3. Allowing players to exchange worms related files with each other. (download prompt feature)
4. Play color maps with additional settings offline, over LAN, and over WormNet2 with fellow CutWorm users.
5. A number of other neat little features.

CutWorm v1.19 is an incomplete Beta version. The interface is not yet complete. I did not add any error handlers to the coding, so that they can be found instead of ignored. Several working features had to be disabled because of small kinks. If you encounter any bugs, annoyances, or other problems with the program, please report them to me either by posting in this thread or by catching me on WormNet. Try to remember the nature of the bug, what you were doing, the runtime error, and how to recreate the bug if possible.

Make sure you read the SuperBit help manual before you attempt to create any. From now on, I would like to see map makers create SuperBit versions of their .png maps so that WWP users may also enjoy them. In the .zip I included some sample SeekerBits for you to play around with. (put in "\User\SavedLevels") and some sample water palettes you can use for creating SuperBits.

You have a choice between 2 downloads. If you are new to CutWorm, get the top one. If you have CutWorm v1.18, please get the bottom one because it is 1/10 the size.

To install, extract the .zip file (contents will be placed in a CutWorm folder):
http://etho.wormsrenegade.com/programs/CutWorm_v1.19.zip

To patch, extract the .zip file in your CutWorm v1.18 folder and overwrite all files:
http://etho.wormsrenegade.com/programs/CutWorm_v1.19_Patch.zip

v1.19 is a great improvement to the program. It fixes many of the bugs I have found and the ones reported by the community. It also introduces a few neat features/improvements. Check the v1.19 readme for a detailed list of the changes I made to it. SavedLevels2.zip includes some more CTF and RR SeekerBits. Please support the program by using it as much as possible and by sharing it with others. I will continue to improve this program as long as the wwp community uses it.

I must mention that this program is 3rd party software and is in no way supported or affiliated with the Team17 company. Any problems you encounter through its use should be directed towards me and not towards Team17.

Yay!
:rushes testing:

Edit #1: "• Filter out some of the bad language used by mentally disturbed individuals." -_-'
Edit #2: SuperBits'll take a while to get used to(still in the readme's)...
Edit #3: Hmm... I think the SeekerBits is a little problem. Wormers switch a whole lot of maps when they play and it may consume more bandwidth than BTP alone can provide. Are there any plans of making the player send the files instead? Upload rates are relatively fast nowadays.

Deekay: CutWorm has the default option to store the SuperBits you download onto your harddrive. This makes it so you only need to download each SuperBit once instead of every time you use it. And no, there is not really an effective way to have players to send the SuperBit to each other in an automated way.

Ghost: You might want to disable address overide and auto IP in CutWorm's options if they are causing you trouble. Also, that water you are using is scarey. The sample palettes I made with a "2" at the end are meant to be used for the Blue2 water type, not the Blue water type.

Hello

Indeed great job u did. Tutorial will be needed for sure.

Cutworm doesn't work for me somehow (both versions), it can't find wwp.exe in path given by me. Also it's impossible to choose drive from list.

Best regards
Marcin

Soczek: The WWP CD is wasted space now, don't worry about it. CutWorm will not be able to locate your wwp.exe if the registry path to it is incorrect. That tends to happen if you move it to a different folder after you installed it. Even still, CutWorm should prompt you to manually enter the path to your wwp.exe. It should work if you do that. (Example: my wwp.exe is located at "C:\Team17\Worms World Party")

Soczek

Hello

My WWP catalog wasn't moved even once, "locate" option doesn't work anyway (but that's not a problem for me at all).

The real problem is that CutWorm can't find wwp.exe even when i'm typing the patch manually (there's no possibility of mismatch or misspell the patch, i was checking it 100 times xD also i was copying it from shortcut with and without file name and extension and with and without \ before the file name).

I'm using win98sesp2 + polish version of WWP from CD Projekt.

Best regards
Marcin

everything works perfectly but i had to ask u some question about converting png files into superbit maps cos that's the hard part =)

indeed, great job. An impressive challenge.

You gotta start WWP through CutWorm, then login to WormNet using the CutWorm link, and then shut WWP down again.

Edit: YEY! I got my Yoshi's Island BR to work properly. ^_^ Everything seems to be working fine now, guh-reat job, kind sir. *runs to make more superbits*

Well I'm having trouble because I cannot host, and fr4nk told me something about IP stuff.. I do not have a router, but UMTS. Any chance I can host with that? Cause the IP site tells me I do have a router/proxy, and gives me its IP as well. I'm pretty confused now, sorry. :P

Etho
11 Oct 2006, 17:34
Soczek: I'm not really sure why it would not work for you. The only thing I can think of is that you are clicking the X at the top right of the options window to close it instead of the "Exit" button. The X closes the window without saving while the "Exit" button closes with saving.

lDarkl: Do you mean you could host before without CutWorm and now can't when you use it? If so, try disable Address Overide and Auto IP in CutWorm's options.

I am trying to find a way to make the login work at normal speed because a number of poor souls are having to wait a long time with it. (I am not one of them. ;) )

It's very good, but buggy. WWP and cutworm has crashed these times:

When using certain features in that map editor thing

When Clicking the arrow next to the IP box in options

When starting a new round in WWP

Oh, and I can't work out where you set a custom background. Pray, enlighten me.

Hmmm i seem to have a problem.... When using cut worm i try to join, but all i receive is a message saying "Fatal error during game server connection, disconnecting." I'm not quite sure what it's about :(

Etho
12 Oct 2006, 05:13
Actually just about everyone is having the problem. CutWorm's feature to display the number of hosted games is interferring with people's logins. For most people, this causes wwp to lag for a number of seconds, greatly delaying the login. A few people are not able to get passed the problem at all.

Give me a little while to try figure it out. When I do I will release a v1.19.

czecha: You should have read the readme. Delete "config.dat" to fix the problem.

Thor: As Seita said, CutWorm cannot inject messages in a game. Also, CutWorm tends to freeze every once in a blue moon. I'm not really sure why but I think it is because WormNet2 disconnects you.

Hey Etho me and SK8kill are trying to create some superbit maps but we have both the same problem when we load it : texture fails when loaded even offline, i mean that we can't get a normal superbit map with special sky and water, we always get a "normal BIT map" with a sucking texture :(

These superbit maps we've made only work when we load them from SuperBiT editor clicking on "run" or "test" (doesn't work when we load them from the map list).

If it's not clear please tell me.

13 Oct 2006, 10:08

You should have read the ReadMe, because the answers are in there. But I'm nice and will summarize it for you. =p

1. Create your SuperBits and save them in the new /User/SuperBits folder.
2. Upload the SuperBits somewhere to the internet, an own webspace would do fine (maybe you can get them to be hosted at Worms sites, e.g. BlameThePixel.com).
3. Now create a SeekerBit for each of these SuperBits, add the correct URL and save them in your /User/SavedLevels folder.
4. Ingame, load a SeekerBit from the /User/SavedLevels folder, and have fun playing.

You are experiencing login failure. A few people have been getting this, and I am working to correct it. I have developed an Auto Login feature for v1.20 that seems to fix this problem. However, I am not sure if it fixes the slow login many are experiencing. With Auto Login, from the time I double click the CutWorm Login to the point where the channel list finishes loading, takes about 5.5 seconds on my computer.

Just wait a while until I finish the next version.

Logging in via CutWorm takes about 20 to 25 secs for me, so it would be an improvement. :P

Soczek: Good to hear that you got it working.

Pivosz: Thankyou very much for figuring out what was causing the "wwp.exe" problem. I'll be sure to fix that. I'm not sure why your map isn't working properly. I would really appreciate it if you sent it to me or uploaded it somewheres for me to download.

Bloopy: It did have an auto find feature, but it wasn't working well. The problem was fixed in v1.18. Having the files on your hard drive is better for many reasons.

v1.19 has bug fixes to many of these problems found. (will be released soon) The Auto Login feature should solve the problem of certain people not being able to login. Please continue to report any problems and the situation they occured in, for these have been very useful in fixing problems.

The slow login problem has not yet been fixed. It is proving very difficult for me to fix it because I am personally not experiencing the problem. I need a good beta tester who is experiencing the problem to volunteer to help. (mastergoober@hotmail.com - must speak English clearly and have general computer smarts)

I think so, yes, and yes. My internet connection is via a router, could that be a problem?

Also, now that CutWorm tries to find my external IP address, could it be a problem that my ISP uses a mass web proxy? What that means is that the IP I'm seen browsing the standard web port with is different to the external IP of my router (which is used for hosting games).

19 Oct 2006, 20:24
Bloopy: It very well could be an issue with your internet settings if it takes a second or 2 for the program to crash. However, CutWorm uses WormNet2's external IP finder to get your external IP. Your IP shouldn't be causing the problem if you can log into WormNet2 normally. Currently, you and Plutonic are the only ones I have heard about that get an error when CutWorm is started.

That's a nice tutorial sk8. I'm not certain of what it says, but I was able to get the jist of it from the pictures.

I haven't heard any comments about the CutWorm login yet. Are any of you having problems with it still? Is the login still slow for you or did I somehow fix that issue?

I just d/l'ed v1.19 and i see you included some premade saved levels, but i cant seem to work out how you use them... I read the superbit readme and have identified that the files in "SavedLevels2.zip" are the seekerbits, but where are the superbits?

Ignore the above, some strange happenin's afoot...

After tinkering around, loading maps, i found some strange things happenening.

On a few maps, they would load as normal, monochrome .bit maps, (leading to my above post)

On others, they would load perfectly, as superbits

And on others, they would crash wwp.

After delving into it a bit further, i found that the chance of a map working/not working/crashing had -nothing- to do with which one i loaded, eg:

On the first map (alphabetically), a city map, it went:

1st try, Monochrome
2nd try, Crashed
3rd try, Monochrome
4th try, Full coloured, worked perfectly

The same went for a few of the other maps i tried.

^ Sorry if the above is incoherent ramblings, english is my 8th language.

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't had much time to work on the program this week, but I'll get to it. (I did add a few nice features to v1.20 already.)

One of my darkest fears seems to have shown itself. My auto login doesn't seem to work any more. Did any of you guys experience this problem? I think the reason for it is because PHPSESSID expires after a few days.

Etho
27 Oct 2006, 06:34
Yes, but I have no idea how to create a new PHPSESSID. Using random characters does not work. The PHPSESSID must co-exist with the counter or else it doesn't work. The counter constantly changes because it refers to the number of seconds that have passed since Jan. 1, 1970 GMT.

WWP normally generates the counter and a new PHPSESSID when you click the UK WormNet2 portal. The problem is that it does not create a PHPSESSID when you click the CutWorm portal for some reason. Also, the login procedure doesn't seem to work if the cookie is missing.

I may need to axe the auto login feature.

Truth be, my interest in this program isn't as strong as it once was. It seems that a new WormNet server planned is high up in the priorities of worms. This new server will render my program vertually useless when it is released (except the SuperBit feature). I also believe it will kill WWP in a way, which will make the SuperBit feature a lot less practical. I do not like the idea that my program could one day be all for nothing if certain changes are made. I hope that Deadcode and CyberShadow will borrow the good features I tried to introduce with this program, and add them to worms the proper way.

My focus has shifted to a different worms project of mine that has the prospect to be a much much better program. I am not abandoning CutWorm, but I probably won't be working on it as much as I once was.

Woody, you probably downloaded the CutWorm 1.18 --> 1.19 patch. Download the full version of it instead which contains Mci32.ocx, along with the other files you will need.

There is an error saying 'Component 'Mci32.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid'.
That error occurs because Windows can't find the registered library in question. In this case it's a control library used by the CutWorm program, if you have problems with any unregistered libraries the easiest thing to do is located them (if they exist on your machine) and run regsvr32 (c:\windows\system32, in Windows XP), this can register or unregister dynamic link library files from windows, use the following syntax;
To register a DLL or OCX file;regsvr32 "<drive>:\<path>\<filename>"
To unregister a DLL or OCX file;regsvr32 -u "<drive>:\<path>\<filename>"
In both cases you will receive a message to say the file has either been successfully registered / unregistered or it was unsuccessful (this can be suppressed with another command line switch).

Hope this helps, however I would follow Etho suggestion in this case and download the full version of the latest release of CutWorm, the installation will automatically register this file for you.

But just for reference that's how you do it manually. ;)

Ok, so I have the runtime error 5 also when I try logging on to cutworm. I believe it's because of my router: because when I wasn't connected to the internet I was able to access cutworm and access all the settings etc. When I turned my router back on I tried opening again and I was restricted. I haven't plugged my comp into my modem yet to see if it'll work, but I think it's because my router that it's not working.

Could u just add somewhat a feature that I can send msg's back to the ppl who are talking to me.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way for me to program such a thing. However, when you join a game, an away message automatically gets set for you that will tell people you are in a game and how long you have been playing for when they whisper you. These people should be able to understand that you are unable to talk to them, unless they are missing a few screws.

27 Nov 2006, 15:00
No news until he gets back to developping CW, which should not happen soon.

Etho
27 Nov 2006, 17:01
Actually there is some exciting news. ;)

I'll try to explain the big change I am making to CW. The biggest feature I made in CW is the seekerbit/superbit portion of the program. Unfortunately, nobody really uses this feature because all players need CW running for it to work. What's worse is that there are a lot of players who can't even use this feature because of the problems with CW's network coding.

So I am creating a branch-off program of CW that I am currently naming "MapEddy". MapEddy will replicate all of CW's seekerbit/superbit features, but it uses a much better method of doing so. This is the difference between the two methods:

CutWorm worked by constantly checking every second for changes in the current.thm file. If a change occured, it would follow the command stored in the newly loaded .bit file. If a superbit/seekerbit was select, CW would replace your Landgen.exe with one used by Worms 2 to prevent wwp from overwriting the Land.dat file CW generated from the SuperBit.

MapEddy will work by replacing the Landgen.exe program worms uses with one of my own. Landgen.exe is run by worms everytime a change is made with a map. The great thing about this is that once you run MapEddy for the first time, it replaces Landgen.exe with the one I made, and then you never need to run MapEddy again. It "patches" your wwp game so that you do not need to have any of my external programs running to take advantage of the color map feature.

It's simple: Download MapEddy, run MapEddy, and then your wwp game will support my color maps. :)

MapEddy will have the map improvements I added in v1.20 of CutWorm. It will also have potential for a lot of other neat features, such as being able to randomly generate color maps in the host screen (rope race, forts, w2w, etc.).

Oh... Must be frustrating for you :/
I'd plans of creating a little website for the purpose of hosting and tracking SuperBits though.
Well anyway, your new method is a much more efficient idea and I hope CW will be out soon ;)

Edit: I've a little question concerning the colour maps size; Is a full screen map, let's say 690x1915 sized, going to get cut like the BIT maps usually do(I know you've made a program to repair the bits though :P)?

Etho
28 Nov 2006, 16:44
You can make SuperBit maps the full 1920 x 696 without having to worry about the cut-off bug. You don't have to worry about the game automatically adding a border around the map if you draw too close to the sides. You also don't have to worry about the game automatically adding girders or making holes in your map if you use too much or too little land. You have full control over your maps.

I finished CutWormLE yesterday. :)

Now I just need to test it, make more SuperBits for it (upto about 100 now), and create an installer for it. CutWormLE will have no network code in it. It is simply a revision of the SuperBit/SeekerBit abilities that CutWorm had. The aim of this program is to get as many people as possible to use it so that color maps can be played freely on WormNet2.

Ok. Etho will correct me if I'm talking nonsense, but here is what I understood about the way WormNet2 accepts connections: At one point in the connecting sequence, the server sends an encrypted information to the client. The client has to decrypt it and send the decrypted message back to the server. The main problem is that decryption algorithm can not be emulated without knowing which decryption key it uses. For this very reason, WWP main executable is currently the only program able to reply correctly to WormNet2 server. Writing other pieces of software able to reply correctly, and therefore able to allow a connection to WormNet2 would require for their developper to have access to the source code of WWP. But since this cryptography measures have been taken precisely to prevent snoopers to be developped for WWP, people that have been entrusted by T17 with WWP source code will not break their agreement and release parts of information that would go against the initial goal of T17, unless explicitely stated otherwise. Which is why it is currently not possible to write a program able to connect into WormNet2 without the help of WWP main executable to complete this authentification step.

Etho

What antivirus are you using? wnet2connect[1].rar is a Wormnet 2 Connection thing, and TaskKeyHook.dll makes sure you can still use certain keys within worms. A lot of virus detection programs give false positives for anything that plugs into the keyboard or connects to the internet.

Etho.

Those 2 files are not from my programs, and are not dangerous.

The best way to fix your problem is to run task manager, find the process that is using up your cpu, and then either disable or delete it.
