Hi,
I cannot remember how much has it been since I last played WWP normally, because when I try to play at resolutions bigger than 640x480 (i.e. 800x600 or 1024x768) all I get is the worms pink-silhouette, no landscape, no nothing. I tried getting a screenshot, but all I could get was this:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7121/wwpssky1.th.jpg (http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wwpssky1.jpg)

I've made some changes on my PC since I installed it (around mid. 2005, and it seems I'm unable to find it so I can reinstall), like getting a 1x1GB DDR RAM instead of the 1x512MB DDR (both Kingston), and an nVidia GeForce FX-550 graphic card instead of the one built-in on my Gigabyte K8 Triton (GA-K8VM800M) MoBo. There are also some little problems with the audio, but that maybe some other issue
PC: Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M, AMD 64 3000+ 754, 1x1GB RAM DDR Kingston, Seagate 120GB SATA, nVidia GeForce FX-550, WinXP Pro, and... I don't remember anything else.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I forgot to say that the image shown above is not what I see, but what I got as the screenshot; as I said before, what I see it's the worms pink-silhouette (not too well defined). By the way, two other (old) games run just fine at 1200x1024: Quake III and FIFA 2001 —and yes, maybe I should get some newer games :)

Normally such messed up colors are caused when some other program is stealing the focus of the game thus messing up the paletted colors when switching to the desktop.

Try to disable the "always on top" feature in programs like instant messengers, winamp, etc. or turn them off completely.

what soundcard do you use? if you have a x-fi xtreme soundblaster s/c then update its drivers to the latest version.

I don't think it's the focus, because it works fine at 640x480, it's just when I try to play at a bigger resolution that it screws up.

I don't actually have a soundcard, it's built-in in the Mother Board.

Check if you have a file named palette.log in your W:A folder.

I searched the entire folder, and I could not find any .LOG file.

You only see that if you get messy colours.

And only on W:A.

My bad this time, Muzer.
