The launch of Sony's long-awaited PlayStation 3 games console in Europe has been delayed until March 2007.

Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony's global computer entertainment division, said the machine would still be launched in November in the US and in Japan.

Where i live (sweden),we sell magazines by knocking on doors...and the more you sell the better thing you get,and they had a PS3 on that list..talk about stupid when they don't know the release date:http://www.jultidningsforlaget.com/500/502.asp?iPage=10

The kids would be angry to have to wait so long ot get their ps3...

(though to get it you must sell for 730$,sounds easy huh?...it isn't)

Why only in Europe? It doesn't make that much of a difference though, I havn't planned on getting it at launch anyway.

Xbox 360 came out December 2005.

Maybe this is a good thing. If you get a job and work full time, maybe you can afford half of it when it does arrive! :)

I'm really wondering why Sony are still bothering then, the Xbox will have been out for more than two years! And the Wii is due out first. I recon we might see a flop this time, especially if the bluray prices don't drop.

Of course it will be a flop. Who wants to get a PS3 if you can get a XBox 360 for half of the money, and have the games of the past two years to choose from instead of just a few launching games?

Yeah, the 360 came out in late 2006 here in the states. So in the US, it'll have been out for a year by the time the PS3 comes out. But it's good for Europe, in a way. I mean, it's even more expensive than in the US, so there's more time to work.

As we're aparantly pointing out stupid mistakes in this thread I'm going to take a guess that you meant 2005 there.

Aww, that sucks :(

Not because Im going to get it at launch (hell no) but because it WAS going to come out on my birthday... which... i dunno...
Easily amused I guess :P

Fade in...

[Billy rushes in]*
Billy: Mum! Guess what happens on November 17th!!
Mum: Err... It's your brithday?
Billy: Huh? Oh, yeah, that too, whatever. No! The PS3 comes out!!
[Billy drools]
Mum: Billy!
[Canned Laughter]

*No my name isn't 'Billy'

As I said... Easily amused... :)

That would be why you're getting a PS3 then :p

Buy a bike, it'd be cheaper. Which is just crazy.

Oh yeah. Damn. I'm an idiot. Yeah, it's 2005. I for some reason thought it was 2007 for the moment that I posted that.

Not because Im going to get it at launch (hell no) but because it WAS going to come out on my birthday... which... i dunno...for your birthday? are you having everyone in your family tree save up money to pool together for your birthday gift?!

you can bet that if I had kids I would NOT be spending $700 on a single birthday gift that's not even useful in and of itsself!

edit: and is it just me or does it sound like sony actually WANTS to ruin themselves? if I were in the position sony is in right now I would find a way to release SOMETHING before christmas, because as things were they were already digging a shallow grave for themselves, and after a european launch delay they might as well just shoot themselves now. this may possibly be the worst thing that could have conceivably happen to sony aside from a US launch delay.

Just so you know, Splintr never insinuated that he was going to get the PS3 on his birthday. He just said that he would've been amused by it coming out on the same day. That's all.

Jeez, ANOTHER mistake correction. Come on, let's make some more.

I still think a bike holds a much higher entertainment to cost ratio than a PS3. A decent bike could cost £300 and last easily over a decade.

Or buy a car instead (albeit crappy):-/

I've never understood companies (I'm talking generally here) - they never listen to customers. Take a look at Sony a few years ago - They had the PS2, by far the best technically and far more sales than other rivals. They've really screwed themselves over - I would put money on Blu-Ray never taking on. For a start you can just look at the names of them - HD DVD sounds like a better version of the dvd, Blu-Ray sounds like Bluetooth which it has nothing to do with. Yes, that's oversimplified but as far as I know there's very little difference between them.

People have actually learned something from the betamax vs VHS and the DVD standards disasters. No-one wants to invest money into recording / playing equipment knowing there's a high chance it will become obselete in the near future. Even more so after the actual advantage to blu-ray - quality - has apparently been naff on some of the new blu-ray films.

I've personnaly got low hopes for the entire 'high definition' market outside of the US though. Compared to Never The Same Colour twice (NTSC :p) it is good, but compared to PAL, HD is only slightly better (unless you've got a telly the size of a wall).

And the whole DRM is getting crazy, which is probably putting people off even more.

Your assuming the PS3 never will have anything but launch games. Why do all X360 fanboys want the PS3 to fail?

No, but the fact is that most (nay, almost all) PS3 games will be available for XB360 as well. The PS3 will be far more expensive than the XB360 by the time it's released, and doesn't really offer anything that the XB360 doesn't. So why would anyone buy one, except rich videogame addicts? Microsoft have done very well with the 360 -- with Live Arcade and homebrew support and with the price and release date and so on. Sony have dropped the ball somewhat, releasing an overpriced console about a year later than they should have, without really any particular selling point beyond their own decade old hype.

Thew Wii is where the competition is this time around -- it'll launch at about the same price as the 360 will be going for, it'll launch soon (though we aren't being told exactly when -- in that sense it's the Gordon Brown of the next-gen consoles), it offers the virtual consoles which should be a good rival for Live Arcade... That's where the battle is. Of course, both consoles have a fair market share the other isn't going to touch, so I can't see either sinking without a trace, but there's enough overlap to make for some interesting competition.

Metal Gear Solid 4? Japanese games? Illigal Xbox360 emulators?
