I want your opinions, and I am looking for voices from some old school wormers too.

What is/was the greatest clan of all time? How can you decide that.. well I am looking for the clans that had the most skill and talent. You can name your top 5, or if you only think that there is/was one dominate clan, say why you think so. If you question how you would compare two different clans that existed in different time periods.. think of this: If the two clans played against each other in both of the prime, who would win?

This is just for fun, so lets not try to get too serious ;)

also, just because this is posted in the W:A forums doesnt mean we have to limit it to W:A clans only, you can include any clans from any version of worms

I joined my first clan only a year ago, I have but some idea of the older clans and their doings ;E. This seems to be a hard question to answer... You might want to divide it into clans for fun and competetive clans. NBR has of course been the best roping for fun clan ever, its only competition in that area has been various alias clans that don't really qualify, although pP (psycho pandaz) was a genuine short-lived clan that had very good ropers, MagicalHobo, Ataris, Flow, Marco, Spadge I think. Clans like wwa and SfX have always had lots of good players, and a lot of them have skills in loads of schemes which aren't always league schemes, and they are/were really good overall despite rarely leaguing. Hmm also mwc was a more for fun type clan, it used to be kind of a RR clan, lots of the better RRers (hm along with rrp kind of). You can't really compare a lot of clans, but since roping is the most overall skilled scheme I would say NBR was the best just for fun sort of clan, filled with cool people in any case .

For competetive clans hell, I can't compare a lot of them having only been around since cl2k. I know everyone from EiF I've played was skilled in default schemes, definitely a solid clan. There've been a lot of good clans that weren't amazing but were still very good for when they were around, susuii, sH, tool, hex, bF. I was always told x2x used to be really good, ever since being revived they still are, got some top players in a lot of schemes and all-round. Hm, sCa, eff, BkM, all those german clans had skill at different points but I wouldn't consider them at any point to have been the best, but they have done well at different time periods. bS was always an off-and-on good clan perhaps because of their desperate nationalistic urge to make their country proud, despite the childish personalities of some of them. It definitely depends who's playing though, e.g. x2x is good overall because they have many players who are mainly good in particular schemes. Six was/ is a good clan overall, in my opinion, x2x, dt, and six are/were the most noticable 3 top competetive clans that I've known fairly intimately. Dt has had some really good periods... when Komo was in the clan last year we basically never lost a BnG and rarely lost a roper or RR, and Anubis joined recently, he and I are one of the best teams all-round. But yeah it often depends who plays in a clan, and I guess you can't always go on just win/loss records.

The best clans of all time, skill-wise: TEA, HoS, EiF, SfX, SiX, T5X, DT, NBR

TEA was just amazing at roping. They pushed the limits of rope races, in map-making (Hermit and Stratovarius, who revolutionized rope races were both in TEA, Hermit much earlier than Stratovarius.) and skill. Masterguy and Worro were widely known as some of the best rope racers in the community. TheHamster, a TEA member, won month after month of RopeLeague when it was around. Jubei was a roping legend.

HoS (Harvesters of Sorrow) had a huge tournament for its tryouts. People from everywhere in the Worms community would come to try out for HoS. The winner of the tournament would be the one to join. Therefore, that player must have been a pretty solid, supreme player. HoS was filled with tournament winners. HoS and TEA used to win WACL (Worms Armageddon Clan League) back and forth.

EiF won many league seasons because of their all-around winsmanship. I like that word. I made it up just now. They dominated CL2K in many seasons.

SfX was the clan that every newbie looked up to. They had the skills, the personalities, etc. They had the most-visited clan website ever, surely. Most of the best players of nowadays have been in SfX. They won many league seasons. Nowadays, SfX is full of the most intelligent wormers on Worms. Nearly every SfX member is a genius. KoreanRedDragon, M3ntal, Vahagn, Ryno, Lyriquid, Aenimic, Dw33b, SammyJ, humble little Lex, etc. These people are some of the nicest and smartest wormers you could ever come across. They also have skill out the wazoo. If you see someone with an SfX tag on, greet them and tell them Lex sent you. ;)

SiX contends for the most skilled clan ever, surely. It has Mir and FlowingWater in it, two of the most consistent ropers and best players overall, in it, along with Spider and some others. Well, yeah, they'd probably beat HoS and/or TEA most days of the week. Hmm.

DT, with their incredible 179:51 record and players like Mablak (Definitely the best roper ever, btw.) and Deano, win things lots. Yep.

I remember when T5X won season after season of Worms League Clan League. They were a rotational clan, where only 5 members could be in it at the same time. When one member dropped, they quickly found another incredible member to replace them. They were extremely active and easily booted members who were inactive. The leader changed all the time, and they won game after game after game. They were unstoppable in the days of WL.

NBR, with ropers like Wargod, Volrin, Beelz, SaltyK9, Anubis, etc., madly roped over others' roping stuff. They just roped like crazy and roped so well. Being in a warmer with a bunch of NBR members was always a blast, watching them tap and scroll their way to wormer famedom.

Maybe there are some greats I missed, but in all honesty, those are the best clans ever, in my opinion.

Nearly every SfX member is a genius.

Quoted for absolute and indisputable truth.

As far as staying on topic goes, I've never thought of clans as one being better than another. What clan one liked always depended on what kind of person they were, at least that's how I felt. And that's how I chose my clans.

Of course there's always fame to go by. It's been the most important aspect on WormNet, actually. Skill-wise amazing clans without charisma, without positive or negative public relations, would never be attributed the significance they would perhaps deserve. Such is life on WormNet!

And then there's the really ancient clans that not many [much less on these forums, no disrespect] will even remember. DFA, FLU, BnGK, DwI, PROD, PURE, BUD, GIT, WWA, CKC, OTB, AC and [yes, Vader] COW to name a few. I was in OTB, CKC and AC for varying durations [CKC longest, AC shortest], so those are three I feel closest with. And then there's WWA, those people were and still are awesome. Their forums are right above ours on CL2K, we've been neighbours for years now.

Here's an interesting and at times nostalgic thread about the clans of WormNet on the [now closed] First Blood forums:

Edit: Anyone remember the BB [Bible Bashers] clan? Some hilarious games I've had with those, I think most of them moved on to playing Baldur's Gate at one point.

HoS. No question asked. Mainly because when there was a free spot tryouts needed a website for themselves, to be able to organize 90% of wormnet applying for a tryout. Most successful clan in leagues without forgetting about the fun element.

there was two clans that could compete with NBR for best roper clans, even though NBR has lasted for way longer there where two clans. sN (speed nation) and CoF (Coffee owns TEA) that basically had every best roper at that time playing actively, Jmoberg, Sheriff, Tenchi, Marco to name a few, (i was leader of both -_____________- so my opinion might be biased)

As far as really ancient times go, we can't go without mentioning 007 and tm. Even though the latter ended up being hated. Back when having a cool clan website was a must heh. These two clans i always looked up to when i was a newb.

Then there was C4 with KillerKonijn.... Dukukanes and DeathEve's Hermanos & Bros wich Duku's flash designing skills (lol) and a long etcetera.

But imo HoS was always the best, because in its prime, everyone knew HoS was the best, there was no question asked. Everyone single one of its members was an example of behaviour (irony i know) and companionship.

TEA of course where honourable second placers, but never quite cut it in my opinion, even though they where probably equal in skill there was this aura of greatness that seemed to be missing that HoS had...

Needless to say any top clan of today would have beaten any clan of the past, because specialization doesn't exist anymore, back then, i could rope and that was enough for me to win a league and a clanleague, because Roper DON happened 9 times out of 10, there was the odd bng here or there but nothing too much ^_^

HoS were just before my time, unfortunately, but from what i've heard over the years, and from playing ex-members in that time, i am inclined to believe they were the most skilled and revered clan ever.

When i started playing (summer 2001), SfX were the clan to be in. Everyone looked up to them, wanted to join them, and they were undisputedly the most skilled for a long while. They certainly struck me as the celebrities of WormNET.

They are the two clans that stand out to me, not that there were never better clans, just that they were only the best for a short while whereas HoS and SfX dominated for a long time respectively.

I'd have to pick WWA as the most "fun" clan, as i almost joined them once before Tjerp got in first with the SfX offer.

I disagree with Lex that Mablak is the best roper ever (no offense intended to Mablak, he's certainly one of them), i personally remember Volrin in his day, and he was truly the best roper ever.

I'm gonna hand pick a clan now (with me in it of course :)) :

MPH and Strategist for Elite/Pro/T17
TheKomodo and Dw33b for BnG
Volrin and Mablak for Roper/Rope Race
Myself and Streakmark for "Misc" (Battle/Bungee/Boom etc)

I agree that Volrin was better in some points than Mablak. Volrin and Wargod were the only two who beat my insane5 rope race with one worm all the way through. Oh, I was a good friend of Volrin's too. Wargod, Volrin and I would have long times rope racing. Really, they are the ones who taught me how to do it as well as I do.

However, what about the sheer number of tournaments and challenges Mablak dominated? He beat Volrin's legendary record on TR13. People were afraid Mablak might show up to their roper and rope race tournaments, because then nobody else would get a chance to win. Mablak has proven himself to be the best over and over. Sure, Volrin was amazing, and he could take the challenges. However, he didn't prove himself to be as spectacular as Mablak constantly proves himself.

Anyway, that's off topic. Sorry. Liam, you can have your opinion. It's not my place to dispute it. Besides, the "who's the best roper" topic is way overdone. As it turns out, there are many best ropers. Carry on with the topic.

Gotta say i'm someone who looks up to SFX but then again i was rarely able to connect to wormnet in my early days which is why i took a long break from the game and so i don't know most of these clans :P. but i'd love to see some of these people rope they sound very good.

SEX FX is awesome.
dT might be good skill wise, but they lack a lot to be considered one of the "greatest clan" of all time. If they were all mablak's they'd definatly be up there ;D
SiX is also good overall (naa not saying that cause I'm in it, but because its truely a good clan skill & friendly wise)
HoS was really good back in its day aswell =]
rawr :]

aaaahhhh HoS.. almost brings a tear to my eye. Would still love to revive it but it could never realy work.

As last ever member to join I didn't get long enough in it....

On WA the best clans have all been covered: HoS, TEA, SfX, EiF...
WWP always was a step behind but back in the day there were a fair few good clans: ViP, WoE, x2x... meh there were more but I just don't remember them.

There was ToP in WWP do not forget :) used to finish 49-1 50-0 48-2 in the leagues then usually lost to HoS in the finals :(

The clan kown as "Douche Ones" was founded by Furie a few months ago.
A bunch of former xDMx members (incl. myself) are in it.

WAW has their clan flag included with WA, and apparently, was the first Worms Armageddon clan ever. What say-you to that?

6 Sep 2006, 13:50
I was in WAW. And mainly the reason why i questioned CoW's self proclaiming themselves as first ever WA clan in that other thread. Funnily enough there was no need to mention WAW. The fact that WAW had CoLoN is also the reason I didn't mention it in my list

LIES!

They had their flag included for being a Worms:2 clan.

CoW were the first clan to log onto WormNET (by a mere few moments, it must be said) therefore I am right.

SIR

Over 200-300 members if I remember right, and never was I annoyed with annoying egos that other clans seemed to have. The leaders of SIR have always been a great bunch of people.

First time I've checked this forum in months btw. Glad to see people still care about this game, and for the ever endless wait of Beta4/Last Patch.

Looking forward to a Live Arcade version of worms Team 17, don't disapoint, and don't forget keyboard support!
