View Full Version : Cartoonist Needed, R U Good Enough?

All right, listen up, ladies! When addressed you will always respond with "Sir, yes, sir!" got it?! Good.

Now, it seems my superiors at HQ have had a bit of a problem classifying enemy types for combat training, and because of the understanding that some of the men in my platoon have shown artistic talent during off-duty recreational acitivities in the mess hall, have employed me to find someone to help with the task, in particular the imaging side. One of you lucky ladies will be spending some time with the boys in technical, helping them to construct images of known enemy types. For all those interested, let me see a show of hands.

All right, Jackson, Johnson, Smith, Jones, report to the briefing hall and fall out, The rest of you, outside, now! Ten mile run to get your creative juices flowing! PLATOON, FALLLLLL OUT!

---- GENERAL NOTICE : IMAGE CONSTRUCTION, ENEMY ----

RealVG, an OD community-generated videogames site, is rapidly approaching its launch date of September 1st, and has so far had no success in finding a suitable candidate for its staff members' portrait cartoon construction. The organisation needs your help in converting real pictures of its staff in to cartoon versions for display around the site. It's looking for pictures of the staff sporting intelligent-looking sly smiles and over-serious expressions in cartoon form.

If you think you have the style and motivation to draw several of these cartoon portraits and believe that a little free work done may or may not go a long way in future, sign up below with a sample of your work, soldier!

Visit www.realvg.org for our stirring mission statement and /forum for our Top Secret forum!

Bollocks, I still haven't got back into the RealVG loop. And I have a bunch of articles and reviews to write. Sorry about all this, chaps.

September 1st, you say? Hmm... well, if I split my time between revising for my driving theory test and this, I should be able to knock some stuff out.. let's face it, I need the practice for my upcoming course...

Heh. I suppose I do :).

'Cept I don't like orange T-Shirts. And my hair's a little darker than that. And my glasses frames are thinner. But mostly the orange T-shirt: I can cope with the rest...

When you say "RealVG, an OD community-generated videogames site" do you mean OD in the sense of this forum or in the general sense of the word?

Am I unnessissarily comfused?

AndrewTaylor

You're just new. A bit back (well, a year or more) Ev decided -- Ev being FatWhitey -- that it'd be fun to start a games website. And a load of people said, hey, yeah, and then there was a flurry of activity followed by Nothing. Not so long ago (well, still quite a while ago. A few months, probably) Ben revived -- Ben being Squirminator2K -- the whole project, and changed its name, and the current plan is to launch on Friday. There's a thread about it kicking around somewhere in OD.

Paul.Power

While Slick's drawings are probably the best so far as drawings in general, they look less like representations we can stick next to reviews and columns (which should ideally look like we would were we posing for a photograph, but in cartoon form) and more like action shots from a comic strip, which doesn't quite mesh with what we want. In that respect, Philby is winning for me.

Yes, when I had to do that at work I ended up just copying the photo as best I could (http://www.apathysketchpad.com/stuff/steve%20smye%20and%20bob%20price.jpg). Went down quite well, but it wasn't as cartoony as I'd have liked.

worMatty
29 Aug 2006, 01:59
Nahh, that doesn't have the same effect.

Slick's done an amazing job, and I'm sure he's capable of supplying any of us with what we need. I'd be happy with whatever he'd do of me. Phil's representation of Paul is good but looks a little flat. I prefer his one of you not grinning.

Here are some choice pics of me myself:

http://www.wurmz.eclipse.co.uk/stuff/temp/matty1.jpg
http://www.wurmz.eclipse.co.uk/stuff/temp/matty2.jpg
http://www.wurmz.eclipse.co.uk/stuff/temp/matty3.jpg
That last two are of me messing about for my bro when he's trying to photograph his car.

Don't anyone feel disheartened, everyone can try their hand at drawing cartoon versions of us! The final versions would be best saved as some kind of vector-based image so we can apply them to different backgrounds and increase or decrease their size.

Well every time I get a chance to have a go at this I can't get a clear picture out of any of the photos. So all I want is for you guys to just say what kind of expression you want, and what style you want.
Example of AT
Style A: Serious or in other words, BORING.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/VirusMan/untitled-2.jpg
Style B: Cartoonie to the max! This pic is about as wacked out as I would go. The picture wouldnt look like this unless you really wanted it too.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/VirusMan/untitled-3.jpg

For me to do style A, would take a lot longer. Because it's harder, and less interesting to do.
Besides I have to draw AND color them before i'm done.
If you guys want these alot sooner, maybe someone else would be a better pick than me. :p

It's not an avatar at all, strictly. It's part of my custom title. That means I get to put a style tag in it and put it wherever I want.

It does mean you can't get to the link on my username anymore, but I made it a link to my profile, so probably nobody would even notice that.
