So, I was just looking at wikipedia's article on Circadian rhythm sleep disorders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circadian_rhythm_sleep_disorders) this morning..

Delayed sleep phase syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_sleep_phase_syndrome) (DSPS), which causes difficulty falling asleep at night and waking up in the morning.

I think I actually have that..

Non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-24-hour_sleep-wake_syndrome) causes patients to stay up later and later every night, then wake up later every morning.

Less likely but still possible.

Irregular sleep-wake pattern presents as sleeping at very irregular times, and usually more than once per day (waking frequently during the night and taking naps during the day).

I definitely do not have this one, but it sounds pretty cool.

First one definitely sounds like me. Second one a little bit, but not so much.

As I've said in another thread, I speculate that I may have sleep apnea.

I have a sleeping disordeer.. our dog sometimes starts barking at random things in the morning and it p***es me off, but nothing other than that really. Unless i go to bed over an hour earlier than the night before I usually fall asleep within 10-30 minutes.

generally takes me about an hour to get to sleep once i try although been a bit better at it lately. Definatly have the first two.

The second one is me (except i still have to get up for work)- it'll happen for maybe a week or so, until the point where i get maybe an hour or two sleep, then i'll finish work at about 6 and sleep through and the cycle begins again.

That's a disorder? I thought that was just going to bed too late.

Less likely but still possible.

Again, I thought humans naturally had a 25-hour day that's reset by daylight every morning.

I had sleep paralysis once. That was scary as hell...

I think I had all three of those simultaneously at some point. That was annoying as hell.

I doubt I have a sleep disorder, I just stay on the computer a bit longer which means I wake up later.

I have a similar problem to M3ntal.

Every few weeks I find myself unable to sleep or going to bed with about an hour before I need to get up.

I find pulling an all-nighter resets my body clock pretty well.

AndrewTaylor

Yes, I'm much the same. I tend not to try an all-nighter, though, because if it doesn't work I imagine I'd be totally screwed. I just wait for a weekend and sleep a lot.

I have a mix of non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome and irregular sleep-wake pattern (naps during the day are very scarce though).
My sleeping pattern is really irregular and shifts towards staying up late (5-7am) and sleeping long (2-4pm) during a period of about a week when I have nothing to do.
(Working once a week and playing basketball in the evening is both on Wednesday and really isn't nice with such a pattern.)

Now, in the summer holidays, I work full-time and my sleeping pattern has shifted to a mix of non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome and delayed sleep phase syndrome.
I still go to sleep very late (2-3am) and have difficulty to fall asleep and get up in the morning.

This usually gives me a heavy migraine attack (incl. all of these aura symptomes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine#Aura_phase) + nausea/vomiting) at the weekend or start of the next week about every 2-3 weeks. :p

I should really send a PM to Sel to delete my forum account and burn my computer afterwards.

Yeah, Bonz, you're the worst member of the entire forum. You'd better just leave before we track you down and kill you manually.

(Maybe if we insult him a lot, he'll leave and have a good, healthy life, in his own best interest!)

Interestingly enough, i've found when i have long durations of not having to get up for anything, my sleeping pattern settles into a stable one of going to bed around 8-9am and waking up around 4-5pm.

The first two I might have, but then there's the question about the validity of these disorders.
Sometimes it just seems like these people make disorders for the heck of it.
I like to sit with my feet on the seat, with my knees curled up? Sounds like a disorder to me!
I had sleep paralysis once. That was scary as hell...
That sounds creepy.

Yeah, that's my problem, although I get more sleep than you.

I tend to go from 2am-8am when I'm working to 5am-4pm when I'm not.

I can't work out why.

I had it but only cause I was on sleeping pills and my alarm went off before it had worn off.

Blimey that can't be much fun.

Fortunatly I'm the sort of person who can go to sleep when I want wherever I am (unless it's really noisy). I also have a tendancy to wake up half an hour before my alarm clock, reguarless of what time I set it for. I used to sleepwalk once though.

I've had sleep paralysis too. It's quite scary. I woke up and wanted to re-adjust to a more comfortable sleeping position, but I was frozen. I could not move at all. Eventually I could. It was distrubing. :(

I've had sleep paralysis, as well. My first thought when I woke up was, "damn, arm's blood flow got cut off again".

Then I realised I couldn't move at all and thought, "damn, what did I do last night?"

That was an odd experience.

Again, I thought humans naturally had a 25-hour day that's reset by daylight every morning.

I think the crucial difference between normal people who go to bed too late or have a natural 25-hour day is that someone with a circadian rhythm disorder's biological clock is not reset like a normal person's. If someone CAN'T get to sleep earlier than, say, 4 am even when going to bed and getting up at the "correct" time day after day, or their body insists that the day has 25 hours in it no matter what the sun or anything else has to say about it, that's a disorder.

Edit: And I don't know if I have this or not; it hasn't been diagnosed by an expert. It just seems to describe me.

I know I have insomnia just because I can never go to sleep during the night, unless I am dead tierd. Not just that but what is always fun is the way I never seem to wake up. I slept a full 24 hours with only getting up for a drink and the bathroom once. Needless to say I felt like crap after that.:p

Insomnia is when you can't get to sleep even though you are really tired.

I don't know much about insomnia but that seems a touch incongruous to me.

I used to have insomnia. I slept about 2-3 hours a day. Usually divided in half hour naps.

I heard a guy in India oslt hasn't slept for 40 years or so. But that's probably fake.

Here (http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainn ameatlonglast.com/long15.html)'s something. Note the irony with the Google Ads :)

If there's anything movies have taught me, if you can't sleep you should start or join a fight club.

I believe some closely monitored test subjects have managed to stay up for about a month.

I mean "dead tired" by being awake for about two days.

Is there even any point in going to bed? I'll have to get up in a couple of hours to walk the dog (mum has broken her foot). I think I'll just stay up and then go to bed after I come back. I think I'm turning nocturnal...

Whoah. Damn.
Let's hope that gene doesn't get spread around (unlikely as that is).

Man, there are some weird diseases out there.
