View Full Version : First Names

Lex

Reading along many threads, I've been coming across first names such as Amy, Dan, Matt, Paul, etc. and realizing that I don't know who some of these people are for sure (though I can guess Matt is worMatty and Paul is Paul.Power). Maybe this thread could be for name reference for newcomers. Perhaps this could be stickied, and/or organized so that the first post is more official-sounding than this one.

If you'd like to post your name here, that would be nice. Of course, if you prefer to go by your internet moniker, that's perfectly fine with me. :p I'd really like to start feeling like "part of the group". :)

Lex = Alex Folland.

I really like when people call me Alex. It feels warm and cozy. My use of "Lex" is to create a contrast between those who know me well and those who don't.

I think many of us share that same idea. I prefer to use people's real names only when I know them well enough and if they'll allow me to, on the board. That usually only follows a few private conversations.

Star Worms = Andrew/Andy.

Bit of a mixed bag really. I've always been known as Andrew but some call my Andy. I use Andy in my email just to make it shorter.

I'd prefer Andrew over Star Worms as I came up with that name 4 years ago now and I'm growing tired of it.

Do you ever get in conflicting name situations with Andrew Taylor, or is that usually avoided by the context?

Pigbuster
12 Aug 2006, 00:34
I'm Jack Sutter.
I prefer to go by Pigbuster, though.

I've never realy thought about it before, but I guess I do know quite a lot of the OD member's real names, but I don't think any one here knows my name beyond the obvious 'phil'.

In that case, Hello I'm Phillip Broad. how do you do?

Lex
12 Aug 2006, 00:39
I'm doing quite well; thank you. /me lifts the front of his hat and grins.

Brian Kentosh.

Some call me "Brian"

Some call me "Kentosh"

Chloe calls me "Vlady" (short for Vladimir)

Katie calls me "Briankentosh!!!"

And sometimes people call me "Boris"

But most of the time it's just "Brian"

Although on the forum, it's usually just SP. I prefer the abbreviation to the full thing, actually. I don't mind people here calling me Brian, just nobody really does.

I think pretty much anyone i know well online knows my real name by now. I even get people i've never seen before calling me by it in AG.

Well, then, Brian, maybe a trend can be started. :) From what I've read of your posts, you have a much-more intricate personality than that which would suit your alias. You seem like a well-defined and interesting individual!

Edit: Hi Liam. :)

I don't particularly like being called by, and rarely am called by, my actual name, Justin.

Lex
12 Aug 2006, 01:45
Do most people call you Zero or Zero72? I suppose that's a strange question, but perhaps it helps distinguish you from the CL2K hacker and Colon/Tom-abuser famous in the WA community a few years ago. You may know him as MadSpeed.

Zero72
12 Aug 2006, 01:55
Seems I'm most commonly called Zeor nowadays. :p

Plutonic
12 Aug 2006, 02:07
I'm most commonly known as Plut, (to the point where if I remove it from my MSN name, people start asking who I am...)

Real name is Chris Wallace though, and no-one who I only see on here has known that up untill now...

My name is Angel.
And it's not a girls name, it's pronounced An-Hell.
Second name's Adrian, but I rarely get called that.

Paul.Power
12 Aug 2006, 09:21
Paul, obviously, but for reference my surname is Varley.

Lex

I just learned your last name in another thread I was reading! What a coincidence that you came here and posted it right after. :)

Blinx

Blinx = Gareth Hughes.

Most people call me "Gar" and rarely "Gaz".

I don't really mind. I think it generally sound quite strange if people call me "Andy" (except for my friend Lee who can't call me anything else). Online I don't have to hear it and Andrew or Andy is fine. AT is alright, too. Everything online ends up being known by its initials anyway.

I'm Alex. As well. How curious.

Most people in real life call me Al (Paul Simon!) or KB. The latter is due to my username for my gaming society's forum, KBKarma. One of my DMs started calling me KB, and one year later, few people don't.

I feel kind of happy. My online nick has congealed with my real life.

Yes, congealed.

Nobody in real life calls me Zero. Ever. :p

My brother's called Xero, though.

Slick
12 Aug 2006, 11:42
I act stupid on purpose and people say "nice one Slick", to mock me. :p
Thats the only time I get called Slick though...
Real name would be Andrew. I HATE being called Andy though, although Drew, I can live with. :p

AndrewTaylor
12 Aug 2006, 11:48
There do seem to be a disproportionate amount of Andrews here.

I don't think anyone's ever tried to call be Drew. I probably wouldn't realise it was me.

In school before I last spring we would all call each other by our internet names. Feels very naturall after a while =P

Xinos = Erik

My name is Kaddour Bounab.
An Arabic name with French pronunciation on the ou.

my surname is Varley.
What a powerful surname.

Especially if the resistance of his surname is low, and the voltage is high.

Vader
12 Aug 2006, 15:20
Hello.

I have a real name. It is Stefan. I prefer being called Vader on the board but worMatty calls me Stef which is fine by me because I've known him forever. No, really. We were the cause of the Big Bang. In fact, we'd been playing Thumb Wars for eons prior. He was winning.

AndrewTaylor
12 Aug 2006, 15:21
He was winning.
I can see how that would cause a big bang.

Vader
12 Aug 2006, 15:28
Yeah but he made me a cuppa afterwards and everything was fine.

Plus there was the added bonus of us creating life as we know it.

Bonus!

Anyways, my name's Daniel, although you all call me Dan. I don't care really, since everyone that doesn't know that just calls me Sup anyways.

Daniel Albano indeed!

Woot, another useless bit of info by brain randomly held on to while forgetting large amounts of particle physics and advanced computing :/.

Here's a convoluted nickname story for you all, feel free to stop reading here ;):

I have a friend called Joseph, his nickname is Rida (pronounced like "reader"). Basically, everyone called him Joe. Some people started calling him by the second syllable of his name instead, as a change, which is seph (but pronounced "ziph"). Then, as it sounds similar to Jeff (or Geoff), which is short for Jeffrey (or Geoffrey), they started calling him Ziffry. Then, as a childish joke to imply he was female, that became Ziffrida, which was in turn shortened to Rida.

That is probaby one of the most convoluted nicknames I've heard in a while.

I think most people around here know that my name is Josh.

I appear to be called Glenn. I prefer Splapp though because it's mysterious and stupid. :) LOLOLOLOL

Yes, I had a friend who tried that on me. I want from Taylor to Tails, then to Miles, but the whole thing fell apart because he was the only person who knew about it.

Yes, I had a friend who tried that on me. I went from Taylor to Tails, then to Miles, then to Prowers, then to Prowler, then to Stalker, then to Sex Offender, but the whole thing fell apart because I was being questioned by police.

Shocking, Andrew.

I'm considering legally changing my name to Boris.

It's only the single best name ever. Well, maybe not as good as "Joe Kickass", but I'm not that extreme.

bloopy
17 Aug 2006, 11:51
Bloopy = Paul

I came up with the name Bloopy in 1994 and started to refer to myself as Bloopy a few years later. So the name Bloopy has been with me for a long time, and I'm as much Bloopy as I am Paul. I guess the main difference is that calling me Paul could appeal to non-conformists within the preponderant digital realm.

... calling me Paul could appeal to non-conformists within the preponderant digital realm.

Amen, Paul.

As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morph... Gregor.

Doesn't sound quite as fantastically chilling with a Slovenian name, does it. Good thing I don't have to share the unpronouncable surname.
