Hello all,

I know there are various topics surrounding this issue, but none seem to resolve my personal issue.

I have recently changed to a router, and I can now not host games as normal.

The Router model/number is a 'D-LINK DSL-G604T' and although there is a D-LINK mentioned in the nanacide help, it does not relate to this specific router.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Did you disable your any firewall you may have running? They also prevent other users from accessing the ports used for Wormnet......

Hey both of you...

...first off, thank you so much for replying, it really is appreciated.

I managed to solve the issue, by forcing my external i.p address, where previously it was my internal i.p that was visible.

I can now host again! :D If anyone fancies a game, I will be there around midnight GMT!

forcing my external i.p address
If your external IP address isn't a static one, but dynamic, you might want to check out this:
http://www.no-ip.com/services/managed_dns/free_dynamic_dns.html

(It actually helps with any IP address related things.)

Hey,

Just had a look today, and indeed my external ip has changed (I have set my internal i.p as static using my router)...

...the link above does not work, anyone any other suggestions?

The link works for me.
Have you clicked or did you copy the text?

www.no-ip.com and choose "no ip free" in the menu on the right.

Eeeek! Disabling the firewall is a bad idea. There is no need to if you want to host. Just open the relevant game ports.

But never ever disable the entire firewall. FOOL.

That, or you could disable your firewall and make sure there isn't anything insecure listening on any ports. :p

Itīs much easier to open four ports than to disable insecure services in a standard installation of Windows XP. There are a lot of them.

Dude, his router has a firewall, and it's a D-Link. He can disable XP's in-built one safely.

I never would use Vista. Itīs my computer, not Billīs.

www.no-ip.com and choose "no ip free" in the menu on the right.

Right...

I have downloaded the client, and set up an account which I can see is working...

...but what exactly do I do to make it work in WA? Do I enter the host address in the wormnet configuration?

A step by step guide would be helpful! Sorry im asking so many questions.

Do I enter the host address in the wormnet configuration?Yes. That's exactly what you do, then enable "Force IP" in the same screen, keeping all other settings on the page disabled. This is assuming you have already forwarded the correct router ports.

Thanks for the response Lex.

Well I can host now, although currently I am reading my external ip and entering it into the configuration prior to each session...

...so presumably I can now just enter the '*****.no-ip.info' into the configuration where the IP was previously, and it will work?

Yes.
The no-ip client running in the background frequently checks your external IP address and updates your redirect address.
And since one of the latest beta updates you can also use the dash character (-) in the force ip box.

The client doesn't need much ressources so I have it running permanently & auto-starting with Windows.
I use it everywhere, not only W:A, but also with my FTP & HTTP servers, Teamspeak and servers for other games.

:D

Thank you all who helped in this thread.

Who knows, it might help others as the responses have been insightful and easy to understand.

Im now 'all systems go' and can host etc like I used too!

Now... who's up for a battering? I'll host! :D

It's a program you download from the same site you set the hostname account up on (www.no-ip.com). It runs in your Windows Taskbar.

It's a great tool, and along with some domain settings on my clan web server, allows my PC (well, technically my router) to be m3ntal.clansfx.co.uk :D.

After you have hosted your game, you can use http://www.canyouseeme.org/ to check if someone can connect to your PC. Specify port 17011 for the port.

Also, to check that if your hostname is correctry configured, ping your hostname and compare the IP with the one displayed on http://www.canyouseeme.org/.

If you have a router/firewall or your PC is in a LAN, you need to open/forward a port on your router/firewall/gateway. Consult http://nanacide.com/wahelp/ for more information.
