If you love "puzzle" games and/or remember the old classic from 1997, this is the game for you: http://caravelgames.com/Articles/Games_2/AE.html

Guaranteed to keep you entertained or frustrated for hours to come, whichever comes first. :p

I tried this some months back because it seems to be popping up on every independant games site in existence with ridiculously good reviews, but I failed to be impressed at all. Frankly I liked Chip's Challenge far better, and even that I came to hate after long enough.

And this is somewhat odd, as I'm generally really into puzzle games. I guess because this just seemed more of a test of "okay you have to move in exactly this pattern to kill all the enemies rather than have them gangrape you" than actually containing any decent puzzle elements that I could find.

I used to play Chips allot back then. I had a mysterious folder of old games, like Rodent. I think I got them of a mysterious diskette from a mysterious friend.. well. Time to check this game out.

Edit: So far I like it, but I can't stand the but-uggly portrait of the player. And when you die he doesn't seem to mind, he just takes the chance to flop his tounge and stare stupidly at you. Why I ought'a smack him right across the face...

Great, now I'm all nostalgic for chips challenge.

Anyone know where I can get the windows version?

Last time I looked all I found was the crappy old dos version with the contrasting colours and the music that wouldn't turn off (Damn built in speaker/buzer thingy).

Ohhh, how I remember Chip's Challenge. I think I found it through one of my Windows Games CD (CDs with hundreds of litle free/sw games), just like the old DROD.

Chip's Challenge 2

The success of Microsoft's version eventually led Chuck Sommerville to create a sequel, Chip's Challenge 2, usually abbreviated to "CC2". CC2 included many new kinds of elements and many new levels in addition to the original ones. However, the game has never been released to the public, as Sommerville and the copyright holder of the game could not agree on terms. Sommerville has since given up trying to release CC2.
Damn.

Alright guys, I'm gonna need a little help here..

http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2091/untitledfo2.jpg
I just can't figure out how this level is suposed to be beaten O.o

Edit: As soon as I posted and looked carefully at the picture I saw that the arrow area to the left isn't the trap that I first thought it was. *beats the level*

The arrows on the left side can be walked through in the opposite direction. You just have to figure out how.

New problem!

Study that picture. HOW do you get out of there once all the bugs are killed (which I've yet been able to do btw).

You exit from where you came from, the rooms aren't always laid out in a linear fashion. The maze above you leads to more rooms if you look carefully.

Xinos
26 Jul 2006, 15:14
That's not what I mean. Once you enter the middle section you will be compleatly trapped by the arrows.

SupSuper
26 Jul 2006, 15:22
Not all of them trap you, look more carefully.

Xinos
26 Jul 2006, 15:32
You don't know how to beat the screen either lol. Don't want to admit the game you linked to is too hard for you? ;)

I've now tried walking through every blue arrow, they all keep me in. There is no escaping. At all. Plase just edit the picture and point it out if you really are telling the truth :p

I'm stuck on the fourth level, wise guy, so I can still help you. :p

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/9356/drodrq2.jpg

You don't have to go through an arrow. At all.

Xinos

And I was sure the creator made an impossible room to keep players occupied while he make more levels :P
thanks

If there is any era of games that makes me nostalgic is this. Even though I'm not very good at puzzlesolving, I just love the beginning of the fourth level you you really have to plot all the movements of the multiple mimics.. It reminds me so much of the old days ;D

JetPack was also a great game..
http://www.abandonia.com/games/222/Jetpack

Edit: Level 4 is hell. Everything in this room is like a single square away from what is needed to find sollutions.

Damn this game is hard.

Last room on lvl 4..

SupSuper

Edit: Level 4 is hell. Everything in this room is like a single square away from what is needed to find sollutions. Now you know why I hate level 4. Never been too good with plotting paths for mimics. :p

If that's the "One North" room, you have to use a special trick to get rid of the roaches without getting overcrowded by both sides. With the position you have on the screenshot, just attract some roaches and then move back down, going diagonal-left/right to kill them.

yup what he said a 1/3 combo. I'm on level 5 now... argh I hate those eyes!!!!

Xinos
27 Jul 2006, 19:36
Level 5 is more annoying. Not as hard in a sense of puzzle solving, but the quicksave squares are allot further apart. More time to screw up =(

Plutonic

yeah, ive noticed that...

Btw if you really need help on any level, I'd suggest looking on the official forums instead of asking here: http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewboard.php?BoardID=1
Are you STUCK STUCK STUCK? About ready to uninstall DROD? About ready to uninstall the hard drive DROD was on and smash it? Well, first ask the friendly folks here what to do in that terrible room you hate so much.
