View Full Version : random crashes in v3.6.25.5 on Windows XP

I've been having a problem since I updated to v3.6.25.5 beta unlike those I found in other threads. While playing single player matches or missions, the game will randomly pause for a second before the monitor shuts off. I'm not able to exit the program or ctrl-alt-delete. I am forced to do a manual reboot of my computer.

I've looked through the forums as well as the unofficial page
http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp/ but haven't found anything that's fixed the problem.

I'd appreciate any advice.

System specs:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz
Asus P4P800 SE motherboard
1.0 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis 256MB video card (driver 8.162.0.0)
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio (driver 5.12.1.3630)
DirectX 9.0c

I'm running WA with the original CD after applying the 3.6.25.5 beta patch.

Gotcha!

Sounds like a similar problem that I had as well. Only mine reboots on its own after a short wait.
I think I have the same motherboard as you have, but I would need to check. Not that it should have anything to do with it... but I saw quite some weird pc related things in my life. Who knows. *insert twilight zone music here*

what version did you update from?

It's v3.00 on the orange and black CD.

It seemed to work without the patch, given that I left the resolution at 640x480 (ewww...) but the same problem happened when I was exiting the game.

I tried the older 3.0.5.0 patch too, but I got the same results - the screen freezes, the monitor shuts off, the sound continues for a few seconds, then everything's dead and I have to reboot.

Im probably wrong but to me it sounds like a graphics card error. Do you get it playing anything else?

What are your system specs? can often be usefull to know.

Haven't had trouble with the video card. No other programs seem to cause this. The specs are in my original post.

When it happened today, I got a message that my monitor "can not display this video mode".

The specs are in my original post.

I'm quite clearly blind...

oh, um.. what monitor do you have?

Think about overheating of either the processor or the graphic card. It is summer!

oh, um.. what monitor do you have?
Dell 1702FP LCD

As far as overheating, I've got 4 fans in my system which is sitting in an air conditioned room. Who knows? I think XP just has it out for Worms.

Gotcha!

Overheating has nothing to do with it. At least for me. Pc is cold enough. Plus I have run recently released games without a problem.

I did have a windows notification that the system was dangerously instable blablabla recovered from a crash blabla and that xp identified my videocard drivers as a possible cause. (Forgot the precise message. If you want I can crash my system again to hopefully recreate it.)

I don't have the same card as BAGTbird, but both of our cards are fairly new.
Like there's some functions on both cards that messes things up because Worms can't understand them or the drivers try to display something and it fails... Just speculating.

(I have a geforce 6800gt by the way. More people with this card or BAGTbird's card perhaps?)

Actually, I think it may have been the video card overheating. The same problem happened with another program, so I opened up my system and felt the card. It was HOT! I checked out all the fans, and the one mounted on the video card isn't working. I put an old card in and Worms seems to be running ok... for now. Thanks for the tip, evilworm2. If I get this problem again I'll post it, but I think the card was the cause.

Gotcha!

If you get the fan on your new card running again, I'd like to know if you still experience the same problems. :)
