View Full Version : I FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX THE MENU SLOWDOWN!!! (on GeForce cards)

Guys, I found the solution to menu slowdown in WWP! It's actually really simple!

1. First download DxWnd from this location:
<http://www.savefile.com/files/9309739>

2. Extract the file and keep the folder wherever you want... it dosn't matter.

3. Open the program, and click Edit>Add.

4. Browse to your Worms World Party folder and double-click wwp.exe.

5. Now all you have to do is leave DxWnd running when you open WWP.

Actually, DxWnd is really supposed to make fullscreen programs run in a window. Even with this program, Worm World Party is still to stubborn to give up fullscreen. This does reduce menu lag considerably though. Don't ask me why, but it works!
>>See below post for another download you'll need<<

Edit: This fix also makes it possible to recover from accidentally pressing the windows key during the game. (I've tested it...acidentally- lol)

It requires Visual C++ 7 Runtimes http://www.valhallalegends.com/files/vc7_crt.zip

Sry about that... I never actually read the thread that provides DxWnd... I originally came across the program for a different use, and didn't know about the C++ Runtime requirement... I only downloaded DxWnd, so I probably already had vc7. Thanks for correcting that for me... tell me if it works for you guys.

Don't know but doesnt work for me. Run -> wwp.exe - right? Windows says "An unknown error.." bla, doesnt work. Have Win XP Home SP1 and a nVidia GeForce FX 5200. But i found another way to fix this problem - try an older graphic driver, for me it worked.

Well, I don't recall anything about a "run command", you just add the program (wwp.exe) to the list of applications that DxWnd affects, then you leave DxWnd open while you play. I've heard that older drivers will also solve the problem.. but I need my drivers current for other stuff... Whatever works for you. Also, this fix makes it possible to recover from accidentally hitting the windows key. (I suppose the windower kinda worked partially in that way...)

Oi, that's not the program I'm using at all... >.< Must be a different version! I'll go find you guys the one I'm using! Sorry!! >.<;;;

Edit: There... I just hosted the one I had!

Interesting. What happens if you try to run the game in a window?

DaKing

Still doesn't work(properly). It only runs in a window when emulating to DX6.

DaMunky89
19 Jun 2006, 19:34
Well I just left it to hook "automatic" in the settings, if that's what you mean... and it didn't run in a window for me. I think something about the Direct X emulation is what cuts down on the menu lag...

In answer to MadEwok, I was trying to run in window, out of curiosity, but what happened instead was fullscreen with less menu lag... that's why I posted it up. Anyone who dosn't have it working, make sure you're using that new link I posted, that one from before was wrong.

Still doesnt work for me. It works best if i emulate DirectX 7, but still slow.
With Automatic or DirectX 6 it runs in a windows, but with colorbug and.. i am only able to see a small bar at the bottom of the window.

So i will use my old driver. ;p

Hey!
Has anybody ever tried NVemulate (http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nvemulate.html)?

Let's try it then.
No effect. WWP based on D3D by the way. It did screw all my OpenGL based games though.

If you patch W:A with the latest beta update, you'll find a "SlowFrontendWorkaround_On.reg" file in your install directory. Double click it.

W2 should have no slow menus, since it's windowed.

No solution for WWP. (Except getting forceware drivers v66.93 or older or installing a different graphics card.)

Very funny i have a geforcefx 5200. If u want to play worms u have to use the factory plain card. U have to have go to the oldest version of the ipdates for nvida its the only one that works with worms.

Hmm ... I don't have a slow down effect with WWP, but I can't see the letters on some buttons. When I click on one I can see them.
I'm using a GeForce FX5600 with 256 mb memory.

Edit:
I've the missing letter problem with my Win98SE. I'm using the last nvidia driver 81.98 for Win98.
Under WinXP I'm using the last nvidia driver 91.31.
Under XP i have the slowdowneffect, too.
Does I've to disable something under Win98 that I can see the letters ??

guys, how to fix the slow down menu? Im getting nuts real soon. I don't wanna downgrade my forceware driver (currently using 91.45). Any other ways? Im using 7600GST btw...

Oh yea, about the Visual Run Time thingy, i downloaded the file, so, where am i gonna extract it to?

DeeKay

Nowhere. As cleared above, none of the ways work and at the moment there is no way of solving this problem.

I tried to emulate one of the oldest cards, but the start menu was still slow and laggy, but now i could play the game. I have Nvidia Geforce 6800 GO.
hmm, hope team 17 could make a patch for all the new graphic cards, that would be great :D

so, no updates to this problem yet?

and could anyone send me that version DaMunky apparently uses?

also, about VC++ 7.0. do you extract it into the DXWind2 program folder?

Will you stop bumping every bloody topic containing your problem?!
NO!
There's no solution for the slow-interface-upon-new-cards problem and that includes the pots above me.

calm down, I was just trying to make sure the problem is still in the spotlight, considering it's been more the 2 months since the last post about it

well hello, looks like you have the problem.
here is a sollution: download the program named "SlowDown" , and for ATI cards do the following-> download ati tray tools and actvate the option max quality , enabling aditionally V-sync and truform.
when that is done, activate the slow down program and turn the speed button to "slow"
for me is ok, 160 fps is locked ^^
try, and let me know !

for ATI cards
AFAIK, the problem with slow menus and extremely laggy text boxes is inherent to Nvidia cards/drivers only.
speed button to "slow"
People want it faster not slower.

You can't make a computer/graphics card run faster by putting a slider in a software to fast.

The problem is with new Nvidia drivers on certain cards that inherently makes WWP run slower. With my 2GHz CPU and GF660GT it is very annoying, but previously with my 800MHz CPU and GF4 it was unbearable.
