I really dislike Japanese anime with their unmotivated switching in style: serious, action-packed to dumb-faced, slap stick in seconds.

Completely kills any immersion.
I either want to watch a silly cartoon with funny jokes for a laugh, or a serious animation movie with a good story.
You just can't mix those.

Would be equally idiotic if some action hero like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Silvester Stallone would suddenly jump around like fools and make silly faces during the climax of the final fight with the bad guy.

the movie itself is boring as hell so those 3 minutes were its one saving grace. it's not even that silly compared to the rest of the film, the humans aren't really animated in a very deformed or goofy way. I guess the fire dragon is, but it's... literally a dragon made out of fire that flies around changes shape a lot. if you're not going to take that concept as an excuse to animate things in a loose and fun way then you're kind of missing the point of cartoons.

and if the team is talented enough, they can easily mix cartoony insanity with good storytelling. Gurren Lagann was filled with wacky over the top stuff and it was animated in a very loose style... and yet people genuinely cared for its characters and story.

I think the exaggerated style actually helps make it more unique and enjoyable. I guess it can be hard for some to think of it as more than just a comedy when it looks like this, but it works with many people and once again I think that you're better off sticking to live action if you view stuff like this as extremely off-putting. cartoons are at their best when they're doing things that you can't do in live action.

I disagree with that. There's no reason why the two can't be mixed, it offers that much more variety for stuff to enjoy.

What's wrong with that? Videogames do it all the time! I mean, Mother3 is considered one of the most well-written games of all, and I don't think I need to point out how utterly silly that game is.
