Look here: http://www.winehq.org/?announce=1.1.3

What do you think about "Beginnings of ddraw overlay support"?
Maybe this will help running Worms Armageddon without additional configuration of Wine.

Sadly no, overlays do not help WA.

set winecfg to a resolution, playing it in full screen causes this error.
btw do you use my winewrapper? because it should allready be setted to 1024x786.

What is the winewrapper?

I also did not use the WA update, because I believe its not needed when u update with only the beta update, for it did not work when I put that WA update either.

if you dont apply the 3.00 patch to an "original 1.05" copy then the beta updates will be useless.

you will need the update to log into wormnet.
ftp://ftp.team17.com/pub/t17/patches/pc/WA_update-3.6.29.0_Beta_Installer.exe

the wine wrapper is a patched wine version and some shell scripts. you can run WA with it and you must not worrie about linux stuff or compiling stuff.
the biggest desaster with an older wine version is that you can not keep your existing wine installation without doing some tricks. my wrapper avoids this trouble.

If you're not ambitious enough to build an old version of Wine yourself (and you will get no help doing this from me, sorry), the best thing is probably lookias' package: http://lookias.inventforum.com/viewforum.php?f=5

I haven't tried it and can't vouch for it. The instructions are pretty confusing and it's not as easy as it could be imo (but since I've done nothing myself to address the problem, I'm in no position to criticize).

Yeah I have the original UK version (1.05) and all I need to do is install the 3.6.29.0 Beta and it works fine. The 3.0 Patch is no longer a prerequisite.

It seems that the franpa alerts will never cease their usefulness.

Yes, the installer automatically downloads any missing, necessary files for certain versions that lack them.
Provided you have a working internet connection during installation.

Just because it can be downloaded/installed as part of the 'beta update' installation process, doesn't change the fact that the 'beta update' will not function properly if you did not install the '3.00 patch'. Also, I used the plural 'beta updates' and not all the 'beta updates' included the '3.00 patch' as part of the installation process.

If anything, I should be giving YOU guys a Franpa Alert ;)

Beta updates since 3.6.28.0 will not install on an unpatched version of the game (if the user refuses to let the update download and install the 3.0 patch).

It shouldn't be necessary to explain this.

A reasonable person would assume that you're trying to be helpful, and therefore your statement includes the latest version (who cares about the earlier ones?) and further indicates that it's necessary to download and install the patch separately (otherwise, how is it helpful to know ahead of time that it's needed?). So while you did say something that could be interpreted to mean something that is technically true, what any reasonable person would take from your statement is total misinformation.

Why the heck do they include the useless update on retail sale games?

It lets you play it in XP, and SOS have a policy that they don't include beta versions (although ironically, the version they do include is actually beta...)

i wrote a little tool to make things easier. everyone have good chances that this run on his linux system.

http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=37128

it uses wine 0.9.44 patched with that patch from madewokherd, but you must not mind about wine anymore when you use this tool.

Hey,

Sorry if I'm bumping a year+ old topic. I saw this thread on the Worms2d.info site. Anyways, I'm on Wine 1.0.1. I understand what to do on this tutorial here, until step 4.

http://worms2d.info/Installing_WA_on_Linux

I've went into the wineHQ site and found the full patch for Wine 1.1.3+. What do I do with it? I'll assume I have to upgrade too, right?

^ Did you try running it on lookias' program?

It really saves a lot of time compared to messing around with wine trying to get it to work. Runs great when I want to play WA on my linux laptop.

I didn't understand how that worked. The program didn't seem to like me either.

Well there is not much to understand, just read the tutorial.pdf inside the "/Play Worms Armageddon on linux/play_WA_on_linux" folder.

its pictured and you can follow it step by step to reach your goal.

There is no guarantee that this works but its worth the try.

lookias, no offense intended, you may want someone whos first language is english to rewrite that for you. i had a bit of a hard time following your instructs.

i do remember the process being pretty strait forward. place the iso in the correct directory path, run the installer in your package... i forget whats next

i got it to run, but due to a lack of wormkit support in wine i lost interest.

Anyways, I think I found my problem.

I've extracted my ISO to a file (WA.ISO), and moved it into the play_WA_on_linux folder. Above the Mount an Image File window, I have this error.

sudo ln -s "/home/awpoon/Play Worms Armageddon on linux/play_WA_on_linux/mountpoint" "/home/awpoon/Play Worms Armageddon on linux/play_WA_on_linux/../wine4wa/windows/dosdevices/l:"
sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified

sudo -k

Have you tried to use the mountscript?

Inside the Mount File dialog there is a button to generate a shell script. Press it and then watch for the mountscript.sh file inside the pwaol folder.

To execute that script, go into the same folder with a shell/console... and write:

sh mountscript.sh

This has the same effect as passing the mount dialog.

I recently reinstalled WA using lookias' program, and it works better than it did the last time I used it. Except the sound was working and not it's not. As soon as worms launches it kills the sound for my whole computer. I was playing mp3's and it just went silent. The sound starts working again a minute or so after worms closes.

Anyways it works ok now, though it kept asking me to put the CD in for some reason so I put in a CD with the .iso on it and it ran afterwards. Well, it's not perfect like you said Lookias, but it does work! Thanks :D

Hey lookias, I was wondering how/why WA overrides the win.ini file when it comes to the country flag setting? It's at "Location=48" and 48 is USA but when I set it to Location=49, the Question Mark flag, and play the game, it reverts the win.ini file back to 48. Even if I set the file as "read-only" or if I leave the file open while playing, it will still re-write it to Location=48. I also copied & pasted my old win.ini settings which had my country and language settings set to an unsupported country, and yet it still knows I'm in the USA. :( I also changed my IP address to one from another country and hit "force ip," yet it still knows where I am! Can you think of anyway to get it to think I'm in another country? Is it getting the information from my linux desktop somehow?

The other information will work like normal, such as changing my name or ip address.

I'd like it to work in the game lobby too, so not just snoopering the flag in the channel.

I know this isn't important information, but if you have any ideas... ?

Well, i'm gettin there thanks to you Ewok. Still one thing left... I've installed all patches and then yer dll. But now it's givin me a no cd message. (and i'm one of the few who actually still has one!) Any thoughts on what i might've done wrong?

get up and think i know i'll reinstall worms today..... :P
