Hi
I have got the good 'ol Worms and are trying to make it work, yes I have read it is not supposed to work under XP.

Using DosBox I have made other old game work, but with Worms it freezes after the intro-animations.

Anyone know how to make it work? maybe some other Dos emulator??

Sincerly

Fun thing is I can run Worms United straight from within WinXP (only FMVs get messed up), but can't get it to run in DOSBox at all.

Double clicking on Worms.bat.
Make sure the correct paths to the CD drives are set in it.

I found out what was missing. I didnt tell dosbox to mount the cdrom as a cdrom. That was why it didnt work.

Now it is working

its very jerky
That's the drawback of emulation.
It's very ressource hungry.

Well I dont know why it is crashing but mine was jerky to start with. I remember fiddiling around with one of the fkeys to sort that out. I cant seem to remember what though. Perhaps when I get home I can find out what I did.

when in dosbox try f8 or f12.

You usually do need to adjust the frameskip and cpu speed options in dosbox before you get good performance. I think there are instructions in the readme..

I've tried getting worms United to run on dosbox, I went a few weeks with getting as far as a blank screen. Then I made a few changes and it seems to like it except it doesn't find the CD even though I've mounted my cdrom drive :( I'm completely at a loss. Such a shame really I had a lot of fun with that game.

With me, believe it or not, W:U works with Win XP no emulation... unless W2 is installed :confised: . Then it crashes after zooming in to the map before the main menu. Have since sold the W:U CD.

Works for me too without any emulation.
W2 is not a problem though.

Boyty01, either reinstall W:U or check if all the paths in your worms.bat file are pointing to the correct drives.
When I installed a second HDD my drive letters were offset by one.

ya works with 0 emulation, i have it installed also. but then i don't have w2 installed so no comment on that.

I never did get it to work very effectively no matter what i changed it tended to crash.

I was wondering how difficult it would to re-write it to work on xp (would take someone better at programming than me)

Having thought for a little while i have tried to run the game in DOS with a windows 98 boot disk and still cant get it to work, it says insert cd and it doesnt seem to matter whether or not the cd is in.

Anyone got any bright ideas?
