Maybe (if you think its worth the risk) just create the file.
If it doesn't work blank, paste the contents of my file into yours.

This will fix every problem of this type, Any Team17 staff make this Sticky, this will fix 99% of problems related to DOS errors on XP.
This is ONLY for windows XP, do NOT use this file if you have another OS.

Exactly what is that programme? Without knowing that, I rather doubt if anyone's going to endorse it by stickying the thread.

It's a exe that contains the full working versions of config.net autoexec.nt and a couple of other files that windows XP tends to **** up often, just run this and it will replace the bad files by the good ones, keep this exe and run it everytime you get this type of error.
I dont care if people dont use it lol, I'm proposing a solution to the problem almost everyone is whining about.

Fair enough. I just get worried when I see .exe files on the internet.

anytime, keep this file tho, as your windows XP will corrupt thoses files again, and everytime you see a sub-system error or video card error or something, just run the file again.

Perhaps a reason for this is the way the HD is formatted, NTFS or FAT

Search for the AUTOEXEC.NT file and when found, copy it and paste it into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 !
(P.S do not use the file from C:\WINDOWS\RESOURCE\1036\ )

be my guest mate, its a file that should be accessible to anyone, just make sure to mention its for XP users only, other people wont have that exact problem, but you never know, some people might think it would solve any problem and would run it on a different OS :P

Great, I will set up two because my main worms host has a max of 10 FTP clients allowed to connect at once, and as a backup...

sFA Mirror (http://www31.websamba.com/g2sfa/files/autoexec_fix.zip)
WormsNet Mirror (http://jxk1.orcon.net.nz/worms/downloads/autoexec_fix.zip) <- may not work...

I have a very similar problem, but running the exe hasn't solved it.

I'm running XP too. I just attempted to install Worms 2. The sold-out setup environment loaded fine when I put the CD in. I then clicked on Install game, and then on the second install game button. A popup asked me if I needed help for the install process. I clicked no. At that point I believe the setup should begin with a welome box coming up with a next button and probably a license to accept. But nothing came up. I tried going straight to the exe on the CD but nothing came up. I tried applying compatibility properties for previous versions on both the autoplay exe and the game install exe but it still didn't solve my problem. I've not seen any error messages at all.

Ooh blimey, I'd completely forgotten about this. I went back to it some time later and tried it again and it worked. Perhaps if you keep giving it a go you might get lucky.

You need to find someone with a Windows XP and get the Autoexec.nt file, if they have the file, using a floppy. Then, take that file and put it in your computer.

This file is found in C:\Windows\System32, or in C:\WinNT\System32.

That's how I fixed it.

(Sorry, but I can't attach mine)

if you would have actually read this post & the link to microsoft,
you would see that the autoexec.nt is *always* either in c:\windows\repair or c:\winnt\repair!

Right, after trawling through various forums I've found a solution that worked for.

Problem
After clicking install, nothing would happen. Occasionally the error mentioned in the first post would occur, but normally just plain nothing. I tried finding and replacing the files mentioned in some other posts (such as the autoexec.nt, config.nt, etc.) but this didn't work.

My Solution
1. Insert CD into Drive
2. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Program Compatibility Wizard
3. Click next
4. Select "I want to use the program in the CD-ROM drive, and click next
5. Select "Microsoft Windows 95", click next
6. Do not select any of the options on the next screen, they are unnecessary, just click next
7. Click next
8. Select option for "Remember settings"
9. Close Wizard

Worms 2 should now install properly

Once installed
1. Navigate to "C:\Team17\Worms2"
2. For each ".exe" file (see list below):
2.1. right click on file
2.2. select "Properties"
2.3. select "Compatibility" tab
2.4. select option for "Run this program in Compatibly mode for"
2.5. ensure drop down menu shows "Windows 95"
2.6. click ok

The files you need to perform step 2 for are:

C:\Team17\Worms2\worms2
C:\Team17\Worms2\Frontend
C:\Team17\Worms2\Binaries\Landgen
C:\Team17\Worms2\Data\Wav\BankEditor

You should now have to game installed, and you should be able to play it by either inserting the CD, and clicking on the play icon, or finding the program on the start menu, and inserting the CD when required.

Side Note
These steps worked for me, and should hopefully for you. The only other thing that I did before trying these steps was to install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. I don't know if this effected the install, so it might be an idea to install Service Pack 3 before you try these steps if it isn't already installed on the machine.

In any case, you should install Service Pack 3, as it is always good practice to make sure your operating system is fully up-to-date.
