Recently after installing Worms Armageddon on Windows XP I noticed it didn't work. I tried d/ling the official update patch from here (http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/worms/wa/WAPatch.exe) but after installing the game did not operate at all.

I un-installed Worms Armageddon completely, then re-installed and restarted. After restart I installed the silkworm file (attached with this message), selected the XP option and ran the game. It worked fine and I've had no problems since.

So my advice is to do just as I did, and see if it works.

where did u select xp? i never got the silkworm screen to pop up. i have a celeron 1.3g with 512mb ram on xp and it doesnt work. please help!

Ok...are you sure you've followed the instructions in the readme file in the zipfile? If u have then try un-installing Worms Armageddon, then re-install and do as follows:

Download file from here (http://forum.team17.co.uk/attachment.php?s=&postid=6552)
Unzip files into your Windows Armageddon directory
Go to directory and run 'Silkworm_patch'
A black screen should appear and disappear quickly - ignore this
Run Worms Armageddon
A white pop up box should appear, usually top left of screen
Select the 'Windows 2000 (Win XP)' option
Click Ok

The game should start and everything should be ok, if not then gimmie another reply man.

it still doesnt work. silkworm never pops up. did u change the compatability for wa.exe? the game starts but no silkworm.

Silkworm isn't working properly here either. After a clean install, I extracted silkworm_patch.exe and silkworm.dll to my Worms Armageddon folder and ran silkworm_patch.exe. The little black box pops up and closes as it should, the backup of dxmfc.dll is created, and the original dxmfc is patched, and I have verified this by viewing the date modified before and after the patch. Unfortunately, no screen pops up when I run wa.exe, the game launches like it normally would, resulting in the black screen upon play. I'm totally lost and frustrated.

This may not be the problem, but it's worth a try cause i got the patch to work perfect ;)

Unzip this to your Worms Armageddon folder and replace the old WA.exe with this...

i forgot that most free servers SUCK! and don't let you link directly to files, so you'll have to fnd them long way... check the donwloads page on the site i mentioned above

well, i'm afraid i can't help you then... i got it to work perfect so i've got no idea what the problem is...
i could always send you my files which were patched sucessfully (and work fine cause i've tried them) and see if thy work

this may seem like a stupid question, but if you have the uk version of WA, did you download the official patch for the game before running the silkworm patch?

I'm not sure really what version I have. I tried installing that patch, and the game wouldn't run at all after that, so I figure I have the US version. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, try sending me your .exe and your patched .dll file and we'll see if it works.

Well, all i can say is that if you bought your copy of worms from the UK (or anywhere in europe) you should install the patch which can be found here: ftp://ftp.avault.com/patches/WAPatch.exe

Well, I certainly didn't go to europe to buy it, so that explains why the patch didn't work. I'm downloading your files right now, hope for the best. I'll tell you if it works out.

Try updating Direct X also check your disc is in good condition.

Also, you should have made your own thread instead of bumping and hijacking a 7-year-old thread too.
