View Full Version : Unofficial Forum FAQ v3.0

New and improved, hot off the presses, ready to roll, and a lot of other daft clichés, it's FAQ v3.0! Bask in its glorious multi-page nature! Grin happily at its (relative) up-to-dateness! Laugh/cry at the feature you suggested that was/wasn't included (delete as applicable)! Grumble as it becomes out of date in ten minutes flat!

;) Anyway, you know the routine by now. Enjoy, comment, make suggestions, and keep me posted on any glaring errors/omissions. I think there's quite a bit of stuff that was mentioned at various times and I said "Hey, that should got in FAQ 3", but I may have forgotten them. If so, do some research, find them, and shout at me about them.

Come the revolution, all FAQs will be like this...

http://www.varley9.freeserve.co.uk/wormposs/faq3/t17faq30.htm

EDIT: Should've mentioned this a LONG time ago, but the most "up-to-date" version is this:

http://www.varley9.freeserve.co.uk/wormposs/faq3/t17faq31.htm

hey, you didn't put MY suggestion of having an ugly monkey dance around the page while I'm looking at it..........ok, I actually haven't read it, nor did I make that suggestion, but oh well, YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME!!! MWAUAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! *runs towards door*

*slams into closed door*
OW!!! &@*@ @#$%* $&#

anyway...what exactly is this forum FAQ?? I've seen you mention it in a few threads, but never read the other versions.

Looking great, Paul! Found a few boo-boos...

"Practicability." Should this be "practicality?" (Edit: Wait, I guess not. Never mind.)

"Arguably on of the Forums' most sensible members"...

"(and he appears to have succeeded; both will bee coming out)."

in the vbCode/Tags section, you forgot to mention that the "font changing" tags are disabled, and that only [small] ([font size=1]), [note] ([font size=1 color=grey]) and [s] (strikethrough) are available.

Also avatars are now limited to 10000 bytes, and you didn't mention Sheep Shooter.

Good work though!

*looks at list of thingies to do*

*creates a Notepad file to stick them all in*

And so the work continues.

tundraH: Could you remind me what Sheep Shooter is please? I think I remember a fangame about summat like that...

what exactly is this forum FAQ??Right.

Back in early 2002, the senior posters on the Forums were getting fed up with the number of questions that newcomers asked - espescially when they were asked again and again and again.

Thus it was suggested that an unofficial Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page should be created to stem the flow of the questions. Like a fool, I volunteered.

A year and a half down the line, this is the fruit of my labours (so far)

Sheep Shooter was a game by Locutus of Worm. Star Worms made the sequel.

Sheep Shooter 2 is at http://members.lycos.co.uk/tcfwg/ and they're both on FilePlanet - http://www.fileplanet.com/section.aspx?s=94833&v=0 .

I'm sure the developers can tell you more :).

Also you might want to mention that a sequel to Worms Breakout is under development, and information can be found at http://www.gamextra.com/brusi/product-wbo2.php .

Very good Paul :)

Just a couple of pointers: Could you either put a "back to top of page" link for all pages, or better, put the three 'naviagation' icons at the bottom of the page as well as the top, as this will make for easier navigating.

Also, in a couple of the 'Forum member' profiles, you still mention 'Worms 3'

WAS APJ DRUNK!? I've seen people begging and pleading for bigger avatars (file size, AND physical size) and now he goes and makes it even SMALLER!? I'd make a protest avatar, but then I'd loose my GOOD avatar here.

Great stuff guys, keep the feedback coming :-)

You'll be pleased to know that this time round I'm being a tad more proactive - I've already began work on FAQ 3.1!

Unfortunately, due to the multi-page nature of FAQ 3.0, I'm unlikely to be able to archive it like I did with 1.0, 1.5, 2.0ß and 2.1. This is something likely to cause either outcry or indifference :-/.

BTW, could a mod "sticky" this thread?

PS In the last two days, England have been smashing South Africa all over the place in the cricket. GOGOGO FREDDIE FLINTOFF!!!

BUMP-EDIT: I've redesigned the navigation buttons. A sneak peek is below.

England won that test match, and the series was drawn 2-2.

Arguably my quickest update ever (well, I'm going off to Uni next week, so I want to leave everything relatively up to date), it's here! It features most of the suggestions, and a few new bits on the Worms 3D Demo (so with luck, it's up-to-date...)

EDIT: I am a silly billy, I forgot to give the address:

Yay, I where the first one to open it (I hope anyway) :), looks very good so far, atleast the small content that I have had the time to read in these minute's, will go more in deep into it tomorrow I guess, since I'm pretty merry go round in my head right now, after sitting in a car for 4 hour's.

I'm STILL not in it! :@:@:@(insert those into MSN messenger 5.0 or over) You'll get in there some day. As soon as I work out how to upload stuff from Uni (if indeed I can), I'll be writing v3.2 (because I know there are still gaps in v3.1).

I've switched the stuck thread for the v3 thread rather than the v2 thread. It makes very little odds since both are shamefully out of date :), but hey, it's a start. This should really have been done months ago, but if he updates the FAQ (hint, hint) it'll be done faster for v4.

Edit: Version two thread is at http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7062

Apologies for the painful necro-bump here, but this is a sticky so it shouldn't matter.

Good though this is, why is it still stickied? It's so out of date it's like the cheese in my fridge. APJ is the webmaster? Worms 3D is in production? User-statuses? K^2? It's all gone and changed.

*requests un-stickification*

A 3 year necro and it is relevant?

Well done sir.

Yes, this does seem ever so slightly out of date.

SargeMcCluck
12 May 2007, 06:28
Half of the FAQ still is relevant (Netiquette, part of Technical, all the worms games bar 3D and WA (Oh how the patching has changed), and parts of the FAQ) - Why unsticky it?

I guess if someone was to purge the irrelevant data or make a new FAQ then you could unsticky the old one, but eh.

http://wiki.thecybershadow.net already has Run's Worms Unlimited page wikified.

AndrewTaylor
12 May 2007, 17:14
Yeah, CS' wiki crossed my mind, though that's more for directly worms related stuff so it'd seem polite to ask him first...

Melon
12 May 2007, 17:18
CyberShadow's wiki is more about the technical aspects behind Worms more than a community based area about the official forum. Sure, it has some un-technical stuff in it like scheme descriptions and so on, but it doesn't really seem like the right place to me.

SupSuper
13 May 2007, 15:24
If someone with time on their hands feels like redoing it, I'm happy to let it go "open source".The FAQ's new goal is to become a Flash animation with mystery-meat navigation and excessive annoying sounds, no matter who's against it!

Anyone got a answer to my problem?
Since i joined on the 3th of May. It's like my account has been limited or something. I can't change avatar, i can't edit my details, i can't do anything...

Look:
http://i50.tinypic.com/351xyyr.png

So i tried to pm a T17 Staff about the problem (berthamari) but apparently i'm limited to only send one pm, every 24 hours -.- and i just happend to have sent a pm to Deluvas about the unofficial Worms Revolution steam group. So that didn't work

Look:
http://i45.tinypic.com/vf8dfn.png

So what do i do? I pressed the activation link when i joined the forums, seems like thats is not enough, or is this some kind of bug?
Do i need to reach a certain amount of 'qualified' post or something?

KRD

That's precisely it. It doesn't take very long, though.

10 May 2012, 22:44
Yes, there is a post limit before you have access to your userCP - its only a small number. This was done due to some users spamming through signatures, private messages, etc. Your initial posts will also be subject to approval before they appear on the forum.

Why can't I open topics?
Basically the same reason as above. All posts by new members have to be pre-approved by moderators. This is until you've reached a small number of posts and time since registering.

One question since this thread had already been necrobumped, How do I set an avatar that's not one of the preinstalled ones with the forum (the worms avatars). Going through UserCP there is no upload avatar option, nor is there a Use URL option. This is the first forum I've had trouble with something like that.

There should be a Custom Avatar option under the preinstalled ones. If not, you might just need to stick around and post more until the feature unlocks (see posts above).
